Wow! AJ tries to off himself.. I thought he was done,for that was insane. Then the creep who dirtied up Meadow, and Tony with the curbstomp.. holy hell, might have been one of the best episodes in a long long time.

"They are the bus. They're the vehicle that gets you here. They drop you off, then they go their own way, continue on their own journey. The problem is, we keep tryin' to get back on the bus when we should just be lettin' it go."

That was a great episode - that head stomp was brutal. Looks to me like Tony has realized AJ is as messed up as he is and is going to take him under his wing. I have a feeling Meadow is going to get clipped in the NY/NJ feud

Great episode... I really didn't like the ones that go out of their way to make Tony Soprano a one-dimensional villain. He's a memorable character, and those people are very complicated. This episode proved it.

A lot of people don't understand... guys like Tony aren't sociopaths... not to say some of them aren't. They mostly just play by a totally different rule book. Its like a subculture with different norms, beliefs, values and laws.

They don't think they are doing anything wrong because in their world, it isn't wrong, its a necessary evil. Tony ruthlessly attacked Coco because he disrespected and threatened his daughter. How many guys here would want to do the same thing to someone who accosts their daughter? I know I would, and I wouldn't be too remorseful about it (assuming I have a daughter). I would however, be in handcuffs, and so you probably won't read any headlines of me stomping some disrespectful ######bag. Tony on the other hand, can do these things because of the subculture of which they live, and he did. Tony crying with his son clinched it to me that he isn't this deranged sociopath, like Dr. Kupterberg(sp) was trying to say to Dr. Melfi, but that they are damaged, mentally duressed, but very human people, living in an isolated society.

Very moving episode.

What was with Phil though? Am I the only one who thinks Carmine was sent to lure Tony into a trap? But "cooler heads" prevailed?

Yeah, I liked the episode a lot too.

Great comment Thunderball, about Tony and seeing his human side. That scene by the pool where he just held AJ after he pulled him out and kept calling him his "baby" was pretty moving.

Also agree that Tony was completely within reason to curb that Coco guy's face after how he disrespected Tony and Meadow.

There's only what, two episodes left? They better get moving!

Hard to really predict what Chase has in store though as he almost always seems to lead the viewers off in one direction and then go another way completely.

Missed this earlier and I agree completely. "Cooler heads" prevailing implies a better decision had been reached... and my guess is that Carmine is being used as a pawn by Phil and Phil realized when they already arrived that it would have been overboard to clip Tony then and there.

Personally, I think your theory is right... Carmine has always been loyal to Tony, and if there's a way out of this upcoming NJ/NY war for TS, its gonna involve getting Carmine's boys out there against Phil too. Tony just doesn't have the muscle anymore, having lost Chris, Ralphie, Vito and especially Furio, for various reasons.

Yeah, good point. Carmine is an idiot most of the time (think back to this episode when he told Tony that he was trying to mend an "alteration" between him and Phil LOL), but I think he could end up being the difference maker regarding whether Jersey wins or loses.

Either Carmine was honestly trying to set up a meeting between the two so they could work things out.... or as you suggested was in on the "attempted" hit, before Phil backed out.

But like you said, for T to come out on top, he needs Carmine's NY side to help. Not unlikely considering Phil seems to be a general pain in the ass to almost everyone not immediately tight with him. Also, remember that Tony was the one who helped Carmine when his dad died to get power vs. Johnny Sac.

Man, Chase throws so many little things in all of his episodes that you see and think to yourself, "What's that supposed to mean?" Like in yesterday's episode, that shot of Sil reading that book, "How to clean practically everything"... is that 'cause Sil is gonna eventually be the one to fix this whole mess? Sil didn't look too impressed when T was going off about his peyote high in Vegas.

Well, I was reminded of Carmine's hilarious lines and googled some up (remember, these are all things that Carmine has ACTUALLY SAID LOL):

And Gandolfini is a truly magnificent actor. Falco too.

I didn't realize until reading this thread that there is only two episodes left! WTF!?! How are they gonna resolve all this in two episodes?

My first guess is that one or both of them will be extra long. The last one for sure. And I think some heads are gonna roll. That last scene with Phil talking through the loudspeaker at Tony and Carmine was telling. I don't think Little Carmine would be in on any attempted hit on Tony- he has always seemed to be more of a "smooth things out" kinda guy, and I think that was his intention in the end of that last episode.

But Phil "Don't call me ######o" is steamed. I think some of Tony's guys get whacked next episode, and the thing with Phil comes to a head also. Maybe it gets resolved then, maybe in the last one, I dunno.

But I would bet the emphasis on the last episode will have more to do with Tony's family than with his crew. Don't forget that Junior is still kicking around the "home" taking his new meds, and they aren't gonna leave that unresolved. AJ neither. Either he gets better quick or something drastic happens. And will Tony survive? I would hope so, and think he will, but who knows.

North America is going to be in shut-in mode the next two Sunday evenings, that's for damn sure.

Just as a heads up, next week there isn't a new Sopranos due to the holiday weekend, but its back the week after for 6.19 and the week after is the finally 6.20.

My wife was absolutely sobbing when Tony pulled AJ out of the pool. But she's pregnant, so I don't give it too much credit.

When Tony curbed Coco. I figured he should have shot Butchie as well. Why not? Butchie is going to try and kill Tony anyways.

But like Tony said. He lost it. The right thing to do, would have been to have a sit down with Phil about the Coco / Meadow incident. Old school mobsters would not have put up with that kind of behavior by Coco. Espeacily to a boss's daughter. In all the mafia stuff I have ever read. The one big rule was you never messed with another guys wife. I think disrespecting someone's daughter would be right up there as well.

Tony lost it partly due to the timing of the situation. He almost lost one child the day before, and then hears his other was being harrased. No doubt I would have lost it as well, Coco had it coming, and should have expected a response.

The big thing with Mobsters is money. All this fighting is going to hurt their bottom lines. The fighting between Phil and Tony is hurting Carmine jr's bottom line. Will Tony and Carmine help one another to get rid of Phil and get all the constuction going again?

What is up with the Arab guys? Or will it go know where in the end? Just a distraction.
