Too bad the world isn't getting any less tech-dependent to help with that. I wake up pain free but it accumulates over the day and sucks by the end of the day. I play it off as 'big brain issues' to make light of the situation when people see me wincing. Might have to seek out Chiro for the first time in my life for that.
Everything else is near optimum though. I think I'm still as fast and agile as ever. I'd imagine it helps to have had no bone breaks and only a small amount or contact sports played as well as staying regularly active.
|
No, you don't. Look up some neck exercises and do some stretching through the day. Any real doctor worth their salt will tell you under no circumstances should you let a chiro manipulate your neck. My kinesiologist gave me some neck exercises. They are actually trained for this stuff...

|
I may have been a bit dramatic as while I have some nagging issues, I'm still far fitter than the average man my age as I can get around a tennis court as well as the younger guys. The difference is that I just can't maintain my level for say a full weekend tournament as by Sunday (if I get there) I'm running on fumes as the body just doesn't rebound as fast as it used to. I'm not a broken down wreck and it's more that I feel like I went from Iron Man to mere mortal almost overnight and it was kind of jarring for me.

Because they probably aren’t making up for the loss of physical activity but that alone doesn’t put them at a greater risk of injury at work than someone working in a fast paced job that requires constant heavy manual labour.
Quote:
Sure the potential of acute injuries is 1000% greater in labour jobs ( hence my bummed foot for life), but the chronic wasting that happens when your a desk jockey will #### you up top to bottom. Soft is the right word.
I'm lucky, I do desk work for my 9-5. but every morning, evening, and weekend I have endless manual labour at the farm. It's not even close which one makes me feel like #### at the end of the day. Given that I use Propper PPE at both jobs ( hearing is a huge exception for example).
|
The overwhelming majority of desk job injuries are far more easily preventable than the ones in manual labour jobs. There are a number of employers that have both office and clerical departments as well as manual labour positions working out of the same facility, I highly doubt you could find a single example of this type of workplace where the WCB claims for repetitive strain injuries from the office and clerical positions outnumber the WCB claims from the manual labour positions.

On the one hand I guess I'm fortunate I have a doctor/medical team that cares, but we're going backwards five years here. I’m shocked that so many of you in your 40s are claiming body pains so early. It doesn’t bode well for the future.

What's so shocking about that? It's literally part of aging and of course people in their 40s will have more aches and pains than people in their 20s.

But surely you're aware your individual life experience can't be applied to everyone. And I highly doubt you haven't known people throughout your life who have had injuries or ongoing pain situations.
Anyway, not trying to be argumentative, but being shocked people in their 40s can have aches in pains struck me as weird, that's all.

My point is that noticeable pain in the 40s is likely to be worse in the 50s, 60s and 70s. I don’t know the solution; maybe something like yoga, which I know nothing about but am considering it. I think the 40s is young is all.

After a lifetime of contact sports and running, my 40's was when my body started fighting me. Of course an office job and not doing all of the smart things to help did me no favours. I actually feel better in my early fifties but surgery is the most responsible for that (hips).
It's completely normal for people to start having issues in their 40's. Especially if you were hard on your body when younger or did nothing when younger then tried to make up for it as you got older. Genetics and body weight are also a factor.

I guess this is just sort of Captain Obvious territory.

Any insight you can offer about your lifestyle that may have helped you to this point?
You can't drop a flex like that on a thread full of ailing people and not offer a little wisdom.

My wife and I go to the gym almost everyday. We often note that people who played sports and particularly contact sports are always modifying the exercises because of injuries and such. While we’re always in the “I can’t do that because my back/knee/shoulder are causing issues” people who have never been active do everything without issue. It’s kind of interesting.

He used his Rand McNally Atlas as a dumbbell instead of reading it.

... but you never scored the OT winner to put your team into the finals either.
I get to carry that along with my bad ankle.
