"Chiles told police the boy would not be quiet for nap time, so she used tape to silence him, an arrest report states. "

So what, did he swallow the tape or something? He couldn't have suffocated, unless she taped his nose shut too.

Well yeah he wouldnt have suffocated himself to death, but I mean WDF!
who does things like this?
The article said his hands would bound aswell. The lady who did this was seriously messed.
I think its a guarantee that the daycare is out of business now. If its not, im sure every parent has taken their child out of there.

My son just had his 6 month b-day on Friday……..I’d wear the skin of a s.o.b. who did something even similar to this crime. I can’t even imagine. ***shudder***

Something similar happened to me. Because I was a hyperactive child, one time at lunch I didn't want to eat I just wanted to run around, so eventually they tied me up in ducktape.

I can't remember how many people were fired but the place ended up closing one or two months later after a lot of parents caught wind and started pulling kids out.

it's probably not the best idea to tape a childs mouth shut ever. even adults could die in this situation if panic sets in. BRUTAL story.

This may not be the case for most of the population, but I have a special type of disorder where if I do not blow my nose frequently (and I mean like every 4 hours) my nose gets so stuffed that I cannot breathe through it. I know if someone taped my mouth shut for an extended period of time I'd probably suffocate.

Sure he could've.

He could've had a cold and been congested.
He could've hyperventilated from panic.
He could've vomitted and suffocated as a result.

I AM IN NO WAY CONDONING THE ACTIONS HERE. THIS OBVIOUSLY WAS BRUTALLY WRONG.

But.... what are the daycares supposed to do with these overactive children? I think they only thing that they can do is call the parent and kick them out. My aunt takes care of 4 children in her home (the max the law allows for children that age). Even with just 4 children it is hard. Particularly when one is acting out or over-active. One example was a 4 year old that my aunt knew was between two parents that were fighting all the time. The child became violent, hitting my aunt AND the other children. He would not listen to any orders like "pick up your toys" or "wash your hands before lunch". She had to turn to giving him sandwiches for lunch because if there was something like peas or mashed potatoes they would just end up on the floor. As a daycare provider you can't spank the children. I have heard her stories of frustration.... Soon thereafter the bad apple started ruining the whole bunch and the other children were acting out and causing disturbances, so she had to tell the parents not to bring their child back.

Don't accept that child into the daycare, there are plenty of other parents who would want their kids in daycare. it there is a proble with a child, do what's best for your business, don't tape their mouthes shut.

That helps the daycare. It doesn't help the child.

But yeah, usually these children need psychologists and/or medical attention that these daycares just cannot provide. But I feel bad for the kids given that in many cases, such as the case with my aunt, the daycare is throwing the child back into the environment causing their problems.

A daycare is not a phychiatric hospital, its mandate is to take care of a child for a limited period of time, and provide the basics. Food, Play and safety. They are not out reach councillers.

If the child shows signs of obvious abuse then you call social services. but they are not obligated to take trouble makers unless thats what they're specifically for.

Simply the next time the parents show up all they have to say is that your child is not welcome back due to _________, and thats all they do.

Day care workers are not trained to take care of anything beyond a normal child.

Not to change the subject or anything...but you celebrated your son's 6 month b-day? I'm not a parent or anything, is this common practice with baby's under one year old for parents? Or was I just not lucky enough to be celebrating two b-day's every year like the rest of the kids?

back when i was a kid if i would get out of control, i would get spanked. sure seemed to put me in line pretty quick.

these days it seems you cant punish a child anymore, and they are allowed to do anything (and kids are smart, they will do as much as you let them). Without minor corrections, things fester a building up. sooner or later, people totally lose control and do something horrid like this.

but as most of the people here said, if the kids act out in a serious way, they should be kicked out. problem is, can these places afford to turn away business?

so true. the thought of getting spanked put the fear of god into me when i was a kid. nowadays these kids are coddled and pampered with little dicipline, and as a result there is no fear of consiquence and thus we have mjor issues in dealing with these kids. Bring back the wooden spoon for crying out loud!
