Much as I hate the contract and wish it were never signed, I honestly don’t see Kadri being a detriment while he’s on the roster, at any age.
If he’s more Matt Cullen than Nazem Ladri the final four years, that’s fine - I think He’s better than Matt Cullen, and Matt Cullen was effective into his forties.
He’s got no significant injury history.
He’s in good shape.
He’s one of the better skaters on the team - he may actually be the best skater among the forwards (which is part of the problem).
Cap’s gonna be over a hundred million by the end of the deal, and the Flames only have $23Mish in salary commitments that extend beyond two years.
I dunno.
Obviously he’s not an Untouchable, but I wouldn’t get rid of him unless there’s no/minimal retention. If any of Kadri’s money is staying here, I want a good pick as compensation.
I don’t care about the player’s concerns here, he signed the $49M contract.
Show up and earn your money. Only way out of here is by producing, and so far he’s done that.

is Duclair going to help Huberdeau hit wide open nets. enough with the trading for every player that Huberdeau has played with. I really feel like he is what he is now, a 50 point player who is really inconsistent, basically Mangiapiani with double the AAV

A 50 point player getting premium ice time and #1PP time.
You drop him down to what he deserves, who know how many points he gets.
And he’s on pace for 46 points.

He ruined Brodie in his first year here and had half this board ready to be done with Hanifin after 2 years with him. Hanifin looks like a completely different player with Tanev/Andersson and Brodie looked back to his former self when he was out back with Gio.
Hamonic was an absolute disaster that likely will be looked back as Treliving’s worst move unless they can be up giving up an even better pick to the Habs for the Monahan trade.

I am thinking even if they would of protected the pick it more then likely would only be top ten protected so wouldn’t of made a difference anyways.

If Skinner could find his game and have an 82 point season after only putting up 14 points in the 2020-21 season, then so can Huberdeau. The skill is there, he finds his teammates with awesome passes, but he needs movement on his line to create chaos, as well as finishing ability.
If I had the option, I would give a guy like Duclair, or Vrana on an expiring contract a tryout next to Hubby. If they have chemistry, and help Huberdeau, then great, sign them to an extension. On the other hand, if they don't, you only lost minimal assets and don't have to re-sign them.

...we've not acquired anyone who has played with Huberdeau previously.
Huberdeau struggled massively last year, and in response to that the Flames fired the head coach and changed nothing about the team other than removing the big bad guy.
The Flames haven't changed anything to try and help Huberdeau be a more effective player. The system, other than a defensive shift to zone, is structurally unchanged. His linemates? Getting tossed around with the same stuff as last year. PP? Still brain dead terrible.
The Flames haven't done anything to try and help the situation, and that's why it remains exactly the same. Huberdeau is not the only problem on this team.

What do you think the Flames should do to help him? I am really curious, he gets tons of PP time on an albeit horrible PP, which is partially him. the idea of trading for everyone he has ever had success with is absurd. Its on him and the wide open net the other night was sadly so fitting.

I don't argue that it's on him - but it's also on Lindholm, and Mangiapane, and Dube, and Savard, and Huska, and everyone else involved in this talentless, bad team.
One player doesn't make a line.
The Flames roster sucks. Focusing in on one player, who actually chose to be here and is locked into an 8 year deal that isn't going anywhere unless we can help him produce to somewhere in an acceptable range isn't going to do anyone any favours.

agreed, there isnt a ton of offensive talent here but i think most anyone can see that it hasnt made a guy like Zary look bad, he plays with whoever is on his line and you can see the talent. In over 100 games, i have yet to see a fantastic game by Huberdeau, you only see a glimpse here or there. He "chose" to be here because our former poor GM overpaid him big time. Flames do need to help him but it is difficult to make trades and turn over rosters overnight.

They know why Duclair is with more to us than anyone else. The pick would be coming from our side with that leverage.

We don't need a throw in pick, I would rather Dube for Duclair 25% retained.

Unlikely. Dube is younger and an upcoming RFA, Duclair is an older UFA.

It’s pretty simple. They either try everything they can to get him help to recover his form or just give up
Kinda early to give up?

I don't disagree with you that the Flames "need" to do things to get Huberdeau going, but the reason isn't because they owe it to Huberdeau. They need to do it to justify the investment in him.
The Flames shouldn't be chastised for NOT moving heaven and earth to make the environment suitable for Huberdeau to flourish. He's being paid as instant offense, there shouldn't be a need to create an environment for him. But, there is this need, it's a crappy situation for the organization to be in.
I also feel bad for Huberdeau, he's coming to the realization that he's not as great as what he and everyone in the hockey world thought he was, and that's got to be hard for any player to accept.

Putting on the tinfoil hat.
Blues tried to acquire sanheim in off season but were spurned by krug not waiving ntc
Blues trade bortuzzo to make room
Blues are prepared to waive varna but something changed
Hanifin? Tanev? Definitely want to upgrade blue line
I know separate thread for varna, but better than trashing huberdeau. And maybe skill player like varna can unlock huby.

He's getting third line minutes. And he's 4th on the team in scoring (was in first a couple games ago).
Yes, he missed an open net in a game where the whole team was snakebit. It sucks, but it happens. I've seen all kinds of players make all kinds of mistakes.
He's been playing a lot better than last year to my eye, and I suspect the advanced stats say so. What do you do to get him going better? You stick with what seems to be working.

Yeah, the Flames kind of left Huberdeau put to dry IMO. Huberdeau is an elite 2nd player. But definitely needs ppl to play with. There was a bit of luck with Bennett and DuClair simply because that was the 2nd line and faced secondary coverage a lot.

Also that line played fast east-west hockey. Flames play exactly the opposite.
It’s a giant failure by the pro scouting staff/Treliving.
