That wasn’t the question in the poll. I voted they’d make the playoffs and lose in round one because they always seem to flip flop and if Huberdeau and Markstrom rebounded there was a decent chance basis last season.
I still think they should have tossed in the towel and rebuilt last trade deadline though.

Been saying it for weeks - Conroy didn’t take this job, he didn’t pull Iggy out of the interior, to make a go of it with Lindholm, Huberdeau and Hanifin.

Hes doing what’s in the best long term interests of the Calgary Flames, and I don’t think two people exist on the planet who want this team to return to glory more than Conroy and Iginla.

Feel like DET and CGY make good dance partners.

Larkin down Long Term? Maybe they snag Lindholm??

Lindholm would be a great pickup for them, Larkin or no Larkin

Iirc over the summer sec 214 said the flames had an offer on one of their players. Shortly after that, petry was traded to Detroit. Wonder if it was tanev. Screams yzerman type player. But Detroit has done well with Swedes too. So some possibilities there.

Detroit’s prospect cupboard is excellent, and their ‘A’ level youngsters are amongst the best in the league. I love Marco Kasper and Nate Danielson, but they also have Simon Edvinsson, and Axel Sandin-Pelikka- 4 guys we won’t get a sniff of. In the ‘B’ department, there’s D William Wallinder (who might be an ‘A’), F Dmitri Buchelnikov, G Sebastian Cossa (another potential’A’), the Dower-Nilsson brothers, D Andrew Gibson, and D Shai Buium.

They would make good trade partners, depending on the other pieces coming back.

Berggren, Wallander and a 1st would be enough to make a trade interesting both of those players might be sacrifices of the numbers game in detroit, but have the talent to be playing. For them, the downside of being waivers exempt.

Steve Yzerman is likely a little smarter than a guy like the "wizard". We wont be trading an average d man for a Hamonic type return but you are right they would make a good partner as they are finally looking to really go for it. Havent heard much lately about Cossa, has his stock dropped a bit?

He’s only 21, which is grade school age for some goalies, but his numbers have been rather pedestrian since his draft year. He spent his first year of pro mostly in the ECHL, and this year his save percentage is a hair above .900 in the AHL. They will regret not drafting Wallstedt instead, IMO.

It still blows me away to this day that Treliving paid a first and two seconds for Travis Hamonic. Looking at most trades in the last few years it is absolute lunacy.

thats the one that i always reference. I didnt watch many Islander games, so once they acquired hi, i thought this guy must be quite the d man, then continued to be underwhelmed by watching him get exposed all the time. Just another of the "wizards" great moves. for every great move, he had 2 or so horrible moves.

His finest work by far. That's probably his trade that hurt the franchise the most considering he traded away possible future pieces that could've been impactful for a player that was fairly average. Not sure what him and the scouts saw to justify the costs.

their pro scouts certainly couldnt have been much worse, they acquired a lot of duds and signed them to big deals.

Harmonic was very highly rated at the time to be fair...other teams had similar offers apparently but the Flames picks seemed like to be better. (They were)

Other teams? He had clearly stated he was going to western Canada or nothing.

edit: It looks like Calgary, Edmonton, Vnacouver or Winnipeg. How many teams put in a bid and what we're the other bids in your recollection?

All I remember is that the Flames were supposed to get what Tanev is in Hamonic.

Word at the time was the Leafs took a big run at acquiring Hamonic.
