Why are you certain he walks in the Summer?

You would have to assume he is when making the trade even if he didn’t.

If we could get two 1sts and Niemela for three expiring contracts, sign me up. Then you can still trade Brodie and Nylander at the deadline for more goodies.

If they were able to deal Nylander at the deadline for a good haul I'd be on board. Not sure I trust the Flames to make that decision though.

If I'm Toronto I'd be trying to sign Nylander and ask Tavares if he would move somewhere.

He won't. Tavares isn't waiving his NMC. Neither is Marner. Both those guys dreamed of being Leafs, their family and friends are all close by, it isn't happening.

I don't make the Nylander deal without an agreed upon extension. I know the rebuild crowd will say you just flip him somewhere else for futures but that isn't the direction the club wants to go. It is a quick retool this team is looking at and that would mean signing Nylander. You can't dump Huberdeau and you need to get him someone he can play with, Nylander should be an excellent fit for the way Huby plays the game. I imagine the Leafs would require the same with Hanifin, an extension in place first.

With the backend the Flames would have after trading Tanev and Hanifin the rebuild would happen because that backend loses a lot of games.

He only has 1 year left so chances are he's moving on regardless.

Except it wouldn't because Poirier once healthy is ready to make the jump, Kylington is possibly back soon, Solovyov is looking like a future Tanev, you still have a solid top pair of Weegar and Andersson, and you can add a piece or two in the offseason via FA.

Highly unlikely. First, the noise out of Toronto is Tavares will take a pretty big discount in his next contract. Second, there is zero incentive for him to move anywhere this year. I have a better chance of winning Lotto Max 5 draws in a row than the Leafs have of getting John Tavares to want to waive his NMC. They would have a better chance of convincing Marner and I don't see that either.

Seems optimistic. Once Willy takes the first 11 million dollars of cap space the Flames would be left with 20 million bucks for 10 players. If you assume the 5 RFA’s only eat 9 million of that (sign wolf and the gang to short term contracts and then really pay them the big bucks when we are close to competing) that would leave 11 million to sign 5 players. I guess you could sign one 5 million dollar dman and then hope that all the other young dmen play lights out. Maybe Oesterle stays and becomes a steady top 4 guy too.

Only problem with the low ball offers to our RFA’s is that some other team might just offer Wolf a 1 yr 3.5 million dollar deal and pay the comp. then we probably match and that blows up the “add a piece to the backend” plan for next year.

I can't imagine the Flames (I certainly hope) would entertain a trade like that with a contract extension in place

Better chance Tavares waives than Nylander signs with the Flames though.

I'd be all for that trade even if it helps the Leafs win the Cup.

Agreed. I have never really cared who the Flames trade with, even if it is Vancouver or Edmonton. Just give me the best return

Very wrong. I know your schtick is the organization is dog #### and nobody would ever want to play here but we don't know if Nylander would want to sign here or not, he was born here and his dad has a history here. There is no chance a guy who shafted his former organization to go Toronto and then posted pics of him as a child in Maple Leaf pajamas is going to waive just so Nylander can get paid. That isn't happening.

Why would we want a 27 year old signing here? Bye. You're traded.

Maybe Willy is a proud Calgarian, and dreams of donning the flaming C like his daddy did?
