what got us to here was really the rise of right wing talk radio and Rush Limbough in the 90's followed by Fox News, to a large degree the GOP had little to do with it, it was a bottom up take over by the street level crazies egged on by a right wing media that makes money by being more extreme

You couldn't possibly be more wrong. The rise of right-wing mediasphere was a GOP operation from the top down, started by Nixon and accelerate by Reagan tearing up the Fairness Doctrine. Roger Ailes worked for Nixon and Reagan.

the western Left really doesnt have simple solutions that lend themselves to whipping up morons the way the right does, to a degree it does in South and Central America where they can 'other' the US for the same effect 'othering' immigrants and people of colour has in right wing western politics

To people who feel deprived of a clear social identity, Ur-Fascism says that their only privilege is the most common one, to be born in the same country. This is the origin of nationalism. Besides, the only ones who can provide an identity to the nation are its enemies. Thus at the root of the Ur-Fascist psychology there is the obsession with a plot, possibly an international one. The followers must feel besieged. The easiest way to solve the plot is the appeal to xenophobia. But the plot must also come from the inside: Jews are usually the best target because they have the advantage of being at the same time inside and outside. In the U.S., a prominent instance of the plot obsession is to be found in Pat Robertson’s The New World Order, but, as we have recently seen, there are many others. — Umberto Eco

It's easy to keep it simple when you're lying.
Reality is complicated.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

Quote:
Spain expels two US spies for infiltrating secret service
It was at that moment, according to the sources consulted, that the Spanish government decided to share the findings of the investigation with the United States and condemn what happened. The case is a very serious matter, since recruiting secret agents of a host state to betray their own country is considered an openly hostile act. Such actions may be taken with enemy or adversary governments, but never with friends and allies. Sources from the Spanish intelligence service do not fully understand what happened. “What do Americans have to pay for if we give them everything they ask for?” they noted. These sources insist that Spain openly collaborates with the United States, and always exchanges information. According to these sources, the number of times in which Spain has refused to share information of interest to Washington is “between one and zero.”

How much of that do they realistically see? If any legal experts want to chime in.
Always feels to me like the legal system has no teeth, and Rudy will be dead before he ends up paying a dollar.
Just saw an article that Alex Jones hasn’t paid any of his 1.5 billion dollar ruling to Sandy Hook families. They are willing to settle now for sale of his assets or 85 million over 10 years. Which Jones’ won’t agree to and fight in court im sure.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67560510.amp
Meanwhile he’s back on X, making money off his show and spent almost a million himself since filing for bankruptcy last year to avoid paying the settlement.

Like Alex Jones I don’t see them collecting much if anything from Rudy but I’m delighted to see the amount.

Yeah, lots of calls for civil war on Xitter
Can it even be appealed? Elections are the purview of the states.

It is being set aside until there is an appeal but still a pretty massive decision. The right one but when has being right ever stopped republicans.
Sorry, placed on hold pending appeal.

John Fetterman's office also came out and said that he is not progressive and never was progressive. Anyone that has followed him for the past number of years would be confused, so people are wondering what the hell is going on here.

Trump is appealing to the US Supreme Court. He probably hopes the mostly conservative judges will rule in his favor. However history dictates that may not happen. The same court in 1974 had to rule on if Nixon had to handover the secret tapes. He lost that one and stepped down as President.
