What’s funny is Kim, not Kes, was going to be written off to make room for Seven. But Garrett was in people’s sexiest man issue so he got a stay of execution.

The Following User Says Thank You to Hack&Lube For This Useful Post:
The Borg were always a matter of when. We knew they were in the Delta Quadrant after Descent. A Borg crew member was something that certainly helped breakup the mundane nature of the cast though. But that still isn't going to make the cast feel better about losing a friend. Jennifer Lien is a nut bar now. The idea that she was experiencing mental health troubles then is some recent revisionist history from Jeri Taylor. It's pretty widely known that Garrett Wang was on the wall with a blind fold and a cigarette before getting the Governor's call that was People's Magazine 50 sexiest people list.
The pranking, teasing and joking around with Dorn has always been something between friends where one is a bit easier to prank and bug than others. By all accounts he is really well liked by the TNG cast, if a bit of a stick in the mud. Marina Sirits refers to him as her best friend. He was a groomsman at LeVar Burton's wedding.
Without doing much research, it's very easy to find him being the butt of just about every joke or prank on the TNG set. When one person is constantly targeted, it's pretty easy to infer that they're probably not well liked.
Oh yes, I remember that. I'm not sure about when Lien's mental health issues came to the forefront, but if you're going to bring in Ryan someone else has to go.
And I remember the Wang/Magazine thing and you're absolutely right. The Governor called at the 11th hour and he got the stay of execution.
If that magazine had come out a month later Voyager would be a very different show.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Voyager had oodles of terrible writing like this, and it still beat the brakes off of discovery. I would rather watch the ####in power plant episode on repeat for a day than consume an hour of STD.

First of all...how dare you mention the Power Plant episode and secondly...yeah.
While Voyager mostly sucked, it still had some of that Star Trek charm.
And yes, I am aware that some of that 'so-called charm' is schlocky and ridiculous, thats fine. I made peace with that a long time ago. We all have.
STD is just...it should have been a different show. Just call it "Supergirl in Space" or something. It is the only Star Trek property that just doesnt feel like it belongs.
I'd re-watch all 7 seasons of Voyager before trying to grind out a season of STD.
