Nylander wants to be in Toronto, I don’t see him signing long term in Calgary anyway. At this point from what the insiderrrs are saying, Toronto would be more open to moving Marner than Nylander lol.

But this Gio injury might open trade talks back up.

This is a tough position for Treliving where desperation should force him into paying extra for an immediate need.

Right, Conroy? Don't go easy on your old pal Mr. Spectacles.

Marner also wants to be in Toronto and has a full NMC. He isn't going anywhere. A poster said they will just walk Nylander to UFA, I don't think they will, BT still has PTSD from the Gaudreau situation here. They will either figure out a way to make it work to keep him cap wise or he will be dealt. The Leafs feel their window is right now and he has been their best forward but I think if you offer him the pieces he needs to actually solidly that backend he moves Nylander. They could also obviously use an upgrade in net.

Huberdeau, Lindholm and Tanev for Tavares, Nylander and Liljegren

Huberdeau Matthews Marner as a top line. I know I've said this before, but that would be one of the most dangerous lines in the league. Plus they get younger on the second line with Lindholm (and trading away Tavares allows them to give the C to Matthews). Plus Tanev to shore up the backend.

Come on Tree. Be the Wizard.

Edit: with nothing retained, we would gain $1,887,634 in cap space and TO would (obviously) lose $1,887,634 in cap space.

Taveras and Nylander unlikely to waive to Calgary.

I can’t see Treliving doubling down on Huberdeau. Your trade assumes quite a bit of positive trade value to Huberdeau, when he has huge negative value.

Toronto could easily get Lindholm and Tanev for Nylander.

So they give up Taveras and Liljegren for Huberdeau?

I'm getting the feeling that the Leafs are somehow going to keep Nylander. I don't think he wants to play anywhere else and I could see a one year placeholder deal next season that takes the Leafs to the expiry of the Tavares contract. Either way there's probably zero chance they are going to trade him to the Flames or anywhere else this season.

No chance Nylander will risk a one year place holder contract, he'll sign the real deal, but I agree it will happen and the Leafs will do what is needed to make room for him. He's been their best player and he wants to sign there. It will happen.

Leafs are just going to roll with what they've got.

No trade to Toronto this far into the season, even with the heavy trade talks, must mean Conroy is in no rush to trade with his former boss. Good.

Tanev is still in Calgary and Zadorov is in Vancouver. And Conroy as of right now hasn't dealt with Toronto.

Matthews didn't take the bag. Nylander isn't Hall or Klingberg. He's 27 years old, just hitting his prime, and one more year would enable the Leafs to give him the deal he wants. There's just no way he can get that deal this offseason season so something will have to give. I'm not saying it will happen but it's a possibility if both parties want to commit to each other long term.

There's no way the Leafs only sign him to one year. The only way the Leafs are keeping him is offering the advantage term: 8 years. If Nylander doesn't get that, he can get 7 years anywhere else, and likely with a team willing to pay a 10m-11m figure. He's been the "4th man" to the other 3 for the longest time, he's going to want to get paid like Marner and Matthews did. He already took a discount once. I would be shocked if he signed a 1 year deal. I do agree he likely stays in Toronto. The cap is going up 5%, and the majority of that 4.2m is likely going to him.

Matthews did take the bag and set himself up pretty well. He will still be young enough to get another big 6 year deal.

It would have to be something like LaBlanc with the Sharks where the next contract is in the drawer. If Nylander ends up having a career year, no way he doesn't cash in.
