^I'd say it's highly unlikely.

However, the idea is you could get a better prospect haul for Bichette's contract and extra year of team control than you'd pay for Soto.

Ha. This would be so cool. And with the Jansen/Kirk platoon every position would have ability to hit 25+ bombs. Make it so.

It’d be a gamble to bring in any one guy who’s a pending FA, but from my time in Dominican Republic, I know that Toronto is seen as a desirable city down there with their rich support of Dominican players over the years. So while Soto and other may like the appeal of the usual suspects, if the offer is right you have a better chance of signing a Dominican vs. an American. I absolutely don’t think Rogers would be able to add one year of payroll that much. It would be amazing but I don’t think we’ll see both Ohtani and Soto brought in. If Ohtani doesn’t come, I think they’ll turn to Soto. But that asking price in players is stiff.

Indeed a huge chance at that. Ohtani chooses another team and the race to get Soto becomes more aggressive with his value going up. San Diego knows what they’re doing by waiting.

Side note: Atlanta also in the mix for Ohtani now. Can’t see it but it would drive me crazy if our beloved AA beat us to him.

I fully expect that Ohtani and/or Soto won't be a Jay next season.

Jays are at best 2nd in the Ohtani race. Soto seems like a bit of a fantasy based on current prices.

There’s definitely a higher than 50% chance they come up empty handed.

Yeah, I'm not optomistic on either.

its fun to be involved but the inevitable disappointment will be sour

That's pretty awful spelling and grammar even by Xwitter standards.

Are they talking about signing 45 yo Jason Marquis? What is it even saying? He has the support to spend or he doesn't?

Soto isn't a free agent, so if this is about Soto and Ohtani, what are they even saying?

Mae isn't a reporter - she's a company shill for starters. She'll never ask the tough questions as she's paid by the team to ask the beachball lobs.

She meant marquee (no idea why she is trying to get out the tweet fast when it's not breaking news). As for if they can spend, sounds like for Ohtani they have the green light but not both.

Soto isn't really a money problem right now. Boras isn't doing a sign and trade. It's just about prospects.

As a neutral (Nats fan) who is intrigued by Blue Jays getting Soto/Ohtani, it makes sense to trade for Soto as a selling point to bring on Ohtani. After the Angels, I imagine Ohtani is looking for a team showing a commitment to winning.

You'd think, but there is speculation out there now that he is strongly considering staying with the Angels lol

So many people throwing crap against the wall right now. I'll be glad when it's over.

Hopefully the Jays land him. Would be so exciting.

Ohtani and Soto would be 80 million combined next year . And they would still need to fill out a few roster spot AND be ready to pay Vlad and Bo

Ohtani without 2 off 3 of Vlad , Bo and Soto would be pointless .

I guess you could sign Soto and move Vlad or Bo but it’s still a crazy amount of payroll to take on next year, and I don’t think Jays can sign Soto long term

Yeah both would be a pipe dream and while the Jays may appear still interested, full well know that they may know they don't have the inside track on either, but still will give the appearance they are in it until the end.

1 year of Soto really doesn't make sense but my guess is one year of Soto would be all the Jays would get, Ohtani or not. He can come to the Jays, get fellow Dominican Vlad back on track, help win a series of two and head off to the Yanks next year.

So, one option would be to empty the clip this year, on both.
