While the league may think hes a low spending bum, his kids will likely not grow up to care about the league, or, enough to go spend money on games. This all means fewer and fewer fans over time.
I should add, this is also only/primarily in Canadian markets. Tickets remain affordable in almost every other U.S. market. Maybe the only exception is Boston. New York is not an exception because while the Rangers are a corporate schmoozefest, the Devils and Islanders are affordable.

I do question why people are talking about this. And forgive me, but I don't see the enjoyment you refer to here - only indignation that the league is trying to keep an almost 30 year old team in a city.
Well I guess I kind of ignore the indignation posts, those don't seem to be worth the time to think about and doesn't really seem like a majority of posters. This thread strikes me as a handful of people who are discussing the ongoing situation with the franchise in Phoenix and when/where it could potentially move. And then a couple of people who want to question why they care.

On a somewhat related note, Diamondback tickets have plummeted for tonight's game. You can get in the door for $15.

Only their third NLCS appearance, first in 16 years, still have a chance in the series down 0-2. Maybe Phoenix market isn't all that great for sports? Guess we'll see how many empty seats today.

Of course they can... they'll have less leverage thou so they'll probably be less able to fleece the locals like they usually do. No time to set up a plebacite if one is required by law, less time to put out pressure tactics, and PR campaigns on local officials etc. etc.

Even if the current version of the team is moved to Houston they will just expand to Arizona next time expansion comes around. Bettman will never give up on that market.

I haven't supported their actual ability to close a deal and get shovels in the ground since the Tempe thing imploded. No change of tune from what you're quoting. There are several plan B's in the works but get it done.

I don't think you understand how jaded this market is, as usual the team in Arizona Sports fashion is imploding. Hard to get excited after Game 2's Weiner pounding.

It's going to take more than a cinderella run here and there to make this market an amazing sports market for its local teams. Sustained year-to-year winning will build it up. But heartbreak here is like Calgary and The Flames x 5.. our teams never do anything good or close the deal sans 2001.

I'm still not over losing 4 in a row to the Bucks in the 2021 NBA finals. Seriously??

An article on Daily Face Off discusses the Coyotes situation and suggests that some on the BOG are getting impatient with the Coyotes. Frank Seravalli isn't convinced that their most recent scheme to land an arena is going to pan out.

Likely a new arena coming to Salt Lake City...

Yeah, I'd imagine we'll hear an announcement early in the new year of a move.

Seravalli shouldn't be convinced. Multiple letters of intent? Well to quote Logan Roy, these are not serious people.

Just relocate them for next season. If the league didn’t have the Oilers this would be the most embarrassing organization.

Worth noting an announcement is expected within the next 3ish weeks about the selection of a site in NE Phoenix, adjacent to Scottsdale:

https://gophnx.com/new-arena-site-of...s-last-chance/

Quote:
Coyotes president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez told PHNX Sports on Tuesday that the team expects to announce its chosen arena site by the end of the calendar year, or shortly thereafter.

While much speculation has centered on the northwest Mesa site on which the team executed a letter of intent in August, multiple sources familiar with the process told PHNX that the team is zeroing in on a parcel of land in northeast Phoenix, adjacent to Scottsdale.

Earlier in the process, Gutierrez made it clear that Phoenix was one of the municipalities that the Coyotes would consider, provided the site was located in the eastern portion of the city, closer to the majority of the team’s season-ticket holder base, and closer to the wealth and corporate bases of the city, along the 101 corridor that extends from north Phoenix and Scottsdale down through Tempe and Chandler.
So, we'll see. Unlike the LOI with Mesa, this is expected to be a concrete selection of what will be the site. Morgan has reported that they've been keen on identifying only land that would not require plebiscites to develop

So what they are saying is they still don't realistically have a place to build a new arena yet, the location constantly changes. I think the board of governors have had enough, would not be surprised if they decide to finally pull the plug at these meetings. Get ready SLC.

That would mean they actually bought the land and have some tangible plans and approvals in place to develop it.

We also shouldn't confuse their desire to avoid plebiscites with a desire to avoid public assistance.

Announcing that they intend to develop a particular site sounds like more of the same.

The LOI was never framed as being the actual choice, though — at the time it was described as them essentially doing due diligence on one of a slate of potential sites. The timeline for an actual result of that due diligence was always pegged for around New Years'/All-Star Break, which lines up with the recent rumblings around the land in NE Phoenix.

I have no doubts about their desire for a certain degree of public assistance, however.

I'm not sure about Frank's sources, but LeBrun didn't even have the Coyotes as a major topic of discussion in his BoG roundup today. The location doesn't actually constantly change because there hasn't been a location concretely selected yet, they've been considering a number of them in the wake of the Tempe failure. We're getting to the point where they're making that selection.

Well the point is they can say whatever they want, they haven’t proven to be very reliable at all. I wouldn’t use the word “concrete” around anything they say.

Is there any reporting of their actions outside of their own press releases and media comments?

Morgan is independent of the team although his sources are pretty close to it. FOS also had a report today

This comment from Marty Walsh in this article seems to reflect reality the best. All talk, nothing concrete.

Ultimately you have to talk a lot to get a deal done. The timeline from the summer was that we'd hear something ahead of the All-Star break. Nothing has really changed on that front. Expecting the league to pull an about-face and pull the plug at these BoG meetings is pretty far-fetched.
