Nah. Buy hey, the necessary 100+ Alberta delegates to a single conference on the taxpayers' dime, a handful of them apparently unrelated to climate anything, at thousands of dollars per hotel room per night, and thousands more on flights per person, and not including what will inevitably be a very high food and drink tab, is worth it to hear to the president of the conference (and CEO of UAE's state-run oil company Adnoc, just by pure coincidence) say there is 'no science' behind the need for an eventual phase-out of fossil fuels, and doing so would 'take the world back into caves', right?

…because they aren’t. This delegation is viewed as a delegation of deniers. They don’t appear to be there for the purposes of listening, learning, and engaging. Their are not viewed by the other participants as wanted or part of helping determine a solution. Their “marketing” of their participation is to refute science and reality. They aren’t saying they are there to help determine a solution or determine how, as a province with oil production, we can help in solving the climate crisis. I’m not sure they can even use those words. They are viewed in the same light as a delegation from friendsofscience.org. From looking at the published delegate list they are also the largest provincial delegation. The only other premier listed is Moe.
I support a delegation being at this event. It’s important to participate and have a voice. That can be accomplished with:
Robert Hamaliuk - Executive Direction, Air and Climate Policy
Cathryn Carruthers Director of Strategic Engagement, Premier's Office
Jamie Curran - Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategy & Governance, Alberta Environment and Protected
Lawrence David Kaumeyer - Deputy Minister of Energy
Rebecca Schulz - Minister of Environment and Protected Areas
There are 25 delegates on the conference lists from The Government of Alberta. This is very high compared to other provinces. Because she went, two of her security detail needed delegate passes too. She doesn’t need to be there, she serves no purpose.
The Albanian government has about the same attendees…and as an aside, some dubious ones too. I’m expecting lots of images of Albania PM Edi Rama and a few trees worth of notes:
Ms. Egesta Murataj Note Keeper to the Prime Minister
Ms. Giulia Dajçi Photographer to the Prime Minister
Mr. Denis Vuka Cameraman to the Prime Minister

Actually as someone who does complain that they don't take climate policy seriously, and thank you for calling it a crisis so at least we know we are speaking the same language.
I didn't complain about this at all. I used is as an opportunity to point out the hypocrisy of the right, where they expect us to be upset about this, and they would absolutely blow their lid over something like this from the left. But I am far more worried about their rampant and constant mismanagement of the long term fiscal capacity of our province, we do need to continue exploiting the industries we have now while they are exploitable, but we also need to look for every opportunity to pivot to something new for our future economy, and we need to actively work to lessen the demand for these resources in our own backyard for our own health, all three things need to be true at the same time, and when you only acknowledge the first two and only take action towards the first, you are not managing with a long term conservative prospective.

The Post Media folks that were part of the 100-person delegate will put up a news article about it as soon as they're back from Dubai

And it will be how Trudeau embarrassed Canada on the world stage and Alberta swooped in to save our economy.

I wonder what some of the hardcore right-wingers in the federal thread would think of this.

Total number of Canadian delegates for COP27 was a little over 400 including panelists, speakers etc. That's everyone from the Mayors to University Deans to MPs to CEOs to investment bankers. The Feds obviously dont pay for all the delgates.
From what I could see, Alberta only sent 6 or 7 AEP staff including Sonya Savage but it was in boring Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt not Dubai. Party time!

If Justin Trudeau's salary was shared amongst all Canadians we could get an additional $3 million each. This is so unjust! #CRIMINALS

Remember the days of Redford wasting money flying the government jet around for a few extra thousand bucks a month with her kid on board and Danielle Smith was up in arms demanding the government sell the whole fleet.
Yeah, good thing the days of conservative entitlement are behind us. Can't imagine what the response would be to that kind of waste today.

Numbers based on the delegates listed in the Parties and Party overflow tabs:
840 - Total people listed under nominator as "Canada".
Of that
112 - Listed as Gov of Canada
25 - Listed as Province of Alberta
Other prov governments
Quebec 8
Manitoba 1
Nfld 3
Ontario 7
Sask 15
NWT 1
BC was harder to identify but maybe 5. Other provinces werent specifically listed.
City of Calgary has none listed.
Brazil sent over 3000 people
The numbers in the spreadsheet are wild. There are easily 75000 names listed. There are almost 5000 "host country guests". The logistics of this must be incredible.

Are they referring to the $1.8B investment by Alberta in the Dow net zero petrochemical plant that was just announced?

So there is already a nursing shortage and they want to get rid of even more of them.
https://www.una.ca/1479/ahs-threat-t...MkhzdvePAJuMvo
United Nurses of Alberta is deeply concerned about the job security of frontline nurses after receiving a letter from Alberta Health Services warning the union about potential “reductions of positions” in 2024.
Alberta is facing a province-wide shortage of nurses. According to the AHS website, there are more than 20 hospitals and health care centres currently reporting temporary service disruptions due to staff shortages, including the Fort Macleod Health Centre emergency department, which was temporarily closed on December 4 due to a shortage of nurses.
because of privatization?
"The AHS letter and a letter from Covenant Health Senior Director of Labour Relations Monica Williams warn that organizational changes could include “changes to staff mix and service redesign, contracting out, changes or repurposing of sites or relocating, reducing or ceasing the provision of services.” "

Private providers must be having trouble finding nurses, so they have lobbied the government to layoff some of them.
Why yes, I am extremely cynical. But hey, morons voted for this, so yay us.
