Yeah, I didn’t go back to 2022 to look - and that year may be a better judge of values considering 2022 was not 2023 when looking at strength of the draft.

Lindholm with an extension is a crazy suggestion. They need defensemen badly right now, but more importantly than that they've forever been a star forward heavy roster (Marner, Taveres, Matthews, Nylander) and are going to do everything in their power to re-sign Nylander.
If they traded for a signed Lindholm then Nylander's gone. Lindholm to Toronto would not happen, it makes no sense for them.

2022 was a pretty lame deadline and the comparisons aren't great, but prices seemed to be pretty good for the teams stockpiling.
(27 year old UFA) Andrew Copp (55GP 15G 24A at the time) and a 6th to Rangers
for
Conditional 2nd (turns into 1st if Rangers made 2nd round with Copp playing 50% of playoff games), Conditional 2nd (2022 or 2023 WPG option), Morgan Barron, and a 5th to the Jets
(31 year old UFA) Marcus Johansson (51GP 6G 17A at the time) to the Caps
for
Daniel Sprong, 4th round pick, 6th round pick to SEA
(26 year old RFA) Arturri Lehkonen (58GP 13G 16A at the time) to Avs
for
Justin Barron, 2nd round pick
Defence
30 year old UFA Nick Leddy and Luke Witkowski to DET
for
Jake Walman, Oskar Sundqvist, 2nd round pick to STL
28 year old UFA Brett Kulak to EDM
for
D William Lagesson, 2nd round pick, 7th round pick to MON
(montreal retained 50%)
Goalies
Kaapo Kahkonen to Sharks
for
D Jacob Middleton, 5th round pick to Wild
Marc-Andre Fleury to Wild
for
Conditional 2nd (becomes first if they reach West final, didn't happen)
Edit: There were pre-deadline deals that were much bigger, I'll add some

Tanev is a beauty. They should trade him anyhow.

I want a Flames/Leafs trade just like the Gilmour trade except this time the protege fleeces the mentor.

Being on a team that is playoff bound 100% helps his UFA value.

If Tanev stays at a cheap price for a couple years I'm OK with that, since he seems to stablize younger defencemen (which the Flames will need to bring in). I'd rather he was beside a Poirier than almost anyone else, especially assuming Hanifin goes.
If it's not cheap or if it's longer than a couple years - nah.

Also don’t hate the messaging. Give them something worth trading Tanev for

I'm ok with keeping Tanev on a 2 year deal hopefully less than his current deal.
This team is playing pretty good considering the lack of production from Lindholm and Huberdeau. If they get Kylington back and trade Hanifin and Lindholm for good returns, they might be in a good spot move forward assuming Kylington re-signs. Lindholm isn't producing like a #1 center but with the extra picks and space, if they find a center that clicks with Huberdeau, they might be competitive next year and be in a position with additional assets too.
If not, Tanev is a great mentor for young players.

We all know Tanev is a warrior, however some of the effects of the injuries sustained over his career are not public knowledge yet (Likely never will be). I am amazed he is still functioning at the level he is.
I love the guy but I think the Flames should move on.

He's been darned healthy since being a Flames. Missed a couple weeks last year, but that's it.

Tanev isn't going to sign a 2 year deal. He'll be 34, he's going to go for a contract that pulls him to 38.
For all of those who say "he's going to fall apart"...he hasn't. On the 4 year contract with the Flames, he has played 93% of the regular season games so far. 227 GP out of a possible 244.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Tanev sign an identical contract to his last - 4 year deal at $4.5M. That's why he won't sign here again - because Conroy is being careful around term on older players, and that's the same reason Toffoli isn't here.

Gudas, at 33 - got a 3 year deal worth $4M.
I think we can safely argue that Tanev is notably better than Gudas, and will only be one year older. One extra year for a defenceman of Tanev's quality? I think that happens. Could it end up at 3 years? For sure, but I think in the world of free agency - Tanev getting a deal that takes him to 38 is just as likely.

He was absolutely great as a pairing for younger D on our team. Both Kylington, and Hanifin benefited greatly from playing with him. He is a huge part of a top PK in the league over the last few years. Also, the way he plays really inspires teammates.
Long story short, I hope he stays and gets to play with Poirier next year.

A 33 year old gets a contract taking him to 36. I don't know that equals a 34 year old getting a contract taking him to 38. Not to mention the teams interested in Tanev will be a lot less cap-free than the Ducks (who still have $10M in space even now). Also, it was a dumb signing. How did Gudas get a raise from $2.5?

I'd like to see Tanev back on a 2 year deal but I agree that it probably won't happen.
I also think with salary retained, he's worth a 2nd at least. IMO teams like Colorado, Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, Florida, Detroit or Tampa should be in on him. These teams all struggle to keep the puck out of the net, already have high end talent and most have high end dman that can QB the pp and create offense. These teams are missing a 2nd unit guy who is elite on the PK. IMO he would be the missing piece for all of these teams other than Detroit (they probably need a bit more but who knows once Kane gets going)
Some of these teams could use a goalie too but IMO they might win with suspect goalies if they got a Tanev to help their depth on d,
He is also a guy that will not disrupt chemistry on any team. Just does his job very well.
