First they'll send the 311 team to take a look. Next, they'll commission a study and pay a high priced consulting firm to investigate. This process will be phase 1, extending to November 2025. Then more things will happen and many will Calgarians will complain about the pedestrian bridge.

First they will put up the fences on both sides again and leave them up for 6 months before actually doing something.

People will just put locks on that. Why not?

Bolt cutters all day, every day. Nip it in the bud right away and don't let it become a thing.

Peace Bridge is kind of a stupid name, and seemed -- at the time -- to be chosen to deflect criticism of the project by associating it with war veterans and the war memorial theme.
But clearly the people have spoken: let's make it a love-lock bridge and change the name to "The Tunnel of Love".

Fun fact - this bridge was originally supposed to be white (as pretty much all Calatrava projects are), but is his first red-colored project. This is due to the helipad next to the bridge, and the requirement for the bridge to be visually identifiable for helicopters for safety reasons.

That seems...dubious. The bridge is lower than the surrounding trees. Calatrava's Venice bridge isn't white(though it's not painted). Gonna need citations.

I love the idea of this. It reminds me of high school bathroom graffiti.

I wish it was white. Or if they were going to stick with red, have it be more of a true red with more pop. It's more of a burgundy up close, which I'm not a fan of.

We did get this design versus a lot of the Calatrava "sweeping high bridge arms" because of the adjacent heliplex. Not sure on the colour part, I'm guessing if it was a big deal Transport Canada would have been fine with some red anti-collision lights put on top of it.

Edit: There is the whole "night time" thing too. Regardless of colour this bridge would have had the anti-collision lights on them if required.

From my experience, the easiest and most cost-effective way to reduce bridge related complaints is to ban cyclists from using the bridge.
