It’s a special gift from the league so they can rest up the Wonder Twins for the playoff push. Didn’t you hear? The Oilers are the bestest, most glorious elite powerhouse team of all time, and destiny dictates that they shall be anointed Cup champs at the end of the year. All the Sportsnet talking heads have declared it so.

That is actually probably not great for them. The four teams between the Oilers and a playoff spot all play at least twice before their next game. They could end up 11 points and six teams back before their next game.

Hopefully the time off kills any momentum they had. You have to think that to make up for having a week off, their schedule gets condensed at some point as well.

Right, except the teams ahead actually have to win those games for your oiler hating utopian scenario to take place. Could it happen? Sure. But is that likely with all these .500 teams playing? No… and in fact proven last night, as your teams went 1-3 and that doesn’t include St.Louis losing. The Oilers odds of making the playoffs went up and has likely encouraged them.

That’s good. They should probably go all-in and trade some picks to push them over the top. We’ll give you nerds Rooney for a 1st.

And they now know the league has put the officials on notice, officiating has literally won them two out of their last 4 wins……..plan the parade

Which is why he used the word "could".
Hey! I didn't see you post earlier in the year? Where were you?
Oiler fan playbook
Team doing poorly: Stay far away from CP and complain about reffing.
Team strings together a few wins: Straight to CP! Ignore poor reffing when it benefits them.

Sorry if its been brought up already and not sure if this is cause or effect, but did Oilers get Saturday off so McDavid could be inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame (because he did get inducted yesterday)
the list of NHLers (I think) now includes
https://www.canadaswalkoffame.com/pi...orts-athletics
Lemieux, Orr, Howe
2 Leafs (Sittler, Bower)
2 Habs (Richard, Beliveau)
3 Oilers (Gretzky, Messier, McDavid)
don't really have the energy to see if any others were inducted while still playing. Clearly Crosby did not meet that bar. At any rate, ignoring McDavid for a second, the list of retired players looks awfully close to 7 of the top 10 retired Canadian NHLers (at least of the last 60 years) and 2 Leafs

Crosby is much more deserving of Canada's walk of fame than the Oilers powerplay specialist who, by the way, has never won any championship.

Lol, wow. The Walk of Fame is really scraping the bottom of the barrel if they're inducting McCheater. Dude is a perennial loser, a crappy leader, and has never won squat. He skates really fast and scores McPP goals, so I guess that's all he needed to meet the criteria? Lame.
Crosby is a hell of a lot more worthy of induction.

Yeah that's border line insulting to Crosby when you think of NHL success, and the golden goal.

What is likely—actually, what is virtually certain—is that the Oilers will lose ground before playing another game. That is a fact.
The Oilers woke up this morning with five teams to climb over into the playoffs instead of just four. The point here is that every team ahead of them is going to continue to win games. Some will go on runs, and with five of them ahead of you it is exceptionally difficult to gain much ground. It's much different if its only two or three teams.

McDavid inducted in the Walk of Fame? Seriously? That is absolutely ridiculous. Who the heck is running that, Ron Maclean?
