Well, he should if he's not offered a fair deal.

No question the Chiefs need to tear that rookie deal up and give him a new one. The thing is that LJ is a me first (almost a me only) player and he's going to want something insane like to be the highest paid running back in the league.

Maybe that isn't insane, I don't know...but I wouldn't expect him to sign the first fair offer that comes his way...and at that point...he's the bad guy again.

The thing is why did he sign that contract in the first place? I thought he only had one year left after this one as his rookie deal was for 5 years and he's been in the league for 4 now.

To a certain extent I do understand why he'd want a better deal now or next year. As CleverIggy suggests running backs usually don't produce too much past that rookie contract, and the more you're used, the quicker you'll break down and be replaced with a younger guy. I mean if you're going to ask him to be your go to horse and give him the ball 400 times you should be paying him accordingly. If you don't at some point in time he might stop trying, which would lead to a pretty ugly situation.

Meh, I'd trade him now while he's still got decent trade value. The Chiefs are likely going into the season with Brody Croyle, Damon Huard, and Casey Printers at QB, I don't really see a playoff season, so look to build your team for the year after. This way you see what Priest Holmes has left after sitting out for a year and a half. If it doesn't work out you hopefully have a top pick and another first rounder next year. Than again I know little about football.

It's his right to sit. I know he's been a bedwetter since he came into the league, but signing a deal does not force him to play football. If he wants to sit a year to keep himself healthy it's hard to argue with the logic. Someone will give him a decent deal in 08, however to me, he has Olandis Gary written all over him ... anyone even know where Gary went after Denver? That line and system work perfect, he has a small handfull of carries each game where he is not touched until 6 yds down field. If he moves teams don't take him in your fantasy pool.

He'll definitely want franchise tag-type money without the downfall of the franchise tag. He's definitely a top 5 and maybe top 3 RB in the league but wear and tear adds up in a hurry.

He deserves money in the same ballpark as LT and Alexander, but like Sylan says - is it worth it? That line is pretty new and unproven and a high quality RB is useless without a decent o-line. And my suspicions are that a lot of his (and Holmes') numbers were a results of that HOF left side.

But to trade him - who would take him? KC cant just walk away from the number 2 rusher in the league. But then again, McGahee and Jones went for 3rd picks and San Diego was asking for a 1st rounder for Turner (no mileage) and found no biters. The 2-back system really lowers the value of a workhorse RB - but the "me first" Johnson wont see it that way.

This could get ugly.

I don't think LJ deserves the same or more than LT. That guy is a monster. But LJ does deserve more than he is currently getting. I think if you produce, Carl Peterson and the Hunt family will take care of you. Tony Gonzales has gotten his money every time. Priest Holmes got his money. Trent Green got his money. (In my opinion Green and Holmes should be released, but Carl seems to have a soft spot for these players) I think LJ will get his money. But I just hope he continues to produce after he gets his fat contract. That is my concern. LJ is currently in KC participating in OTA's and according to the KC media is going to participate in mini camp next weekend. We'll see what happens.

LJ will never get LT or Alexander money ... ever.

LJ is a good back but has a stud oline blocking for him and he has clubhouse issues written all over him. He earned that reputation as a rookie and it pops up now and again.

He'll get paid well, and I don't blame him for sitting the year, but LT, he aint.

Im not saying he's LT, but you cannot argue with the numbers. And you know some team will be willing to pay him (Green Bay or Houston for example).

He did have a great o-line to run behind, but the market will get you top dollar regardless of what team you played for before - look at E. James - put up huge numbers in Indy and everyone knew he was playing with a great offense. Arizona still signed him to a monster contract.

Bottom line, he's not as good as LT, he has clubhouse issues, and maybe he doesnt deserve LT money, yet... but he'll get near it. GB or Houston will think theyre only a RB away from the division and theyll pay.

Stumbled across this article in which it appears that the GB Packers are interested in Keyshawn Johnson.

The Pack have a slew of young wideouts along with Driver, Jennings and the oft-injured Ferguson. If they sign KJ it would likely be as a 3rd down/possesion guy who would fill the TE void the Pack have suffered through for 2 seasons now.

I think Keyshawn would be a valuable addition at this point in his career.

Promising young Jags corner Ahmad Carroll is in trouble now.

Carroll is about the furthest thing from promising there is. He's a bust that will be out of the NFL in the next 2 years.

LOL!

I'll forgive you once. In all seriousness though, you do need to be some kind of lousy to get cut by Green Bay when that team could use all the secondary help they can get.

Yep.

I think I was thinking about Rasheen Mathes anyway. I hate that team!

Unhappy Chiefs expected to be at practice next week. (Trent Green, Greg Wesley, Jared Allen, Larry Johonson)

What they have done to Trent Green is disgusting.

I agree. If I was Green I would make a public trade demand and then just half ass it through practice and the season until I was traded or released.

well professionals can't do that. I respect Green for how he has handled that gong show.

I've now heard Keyshawn could go to any of NE, GB, Tenn or Oakland.

I do not need to see him go to NE. He will be most effective if he has a ton of speed on the other side of the ball. He'd do well in GB opposite Driver but would disappear in Oakland or Tennessee.

He went to the career killing Lions and did absolutely nothing there, along with basically every other running back we've had since Barry.

Many pros have done it and will continue to do it. Green would not be looked down upon by any other organization for standing up to the Chiefs for treating him like crap. If I was a player I would never sign with the Chiefs for how they've treated Green.
