2026 for the 3rd eh.
I'm all about delaying gratification for the big picture but thats pushing it lol.
You're telling me no one had a 2024 3rd to pony up that wasn't a divisional rival? (Heck, maybe there wasnt)

Lindholm and Hanifin are on pretty cheap deals that would be pro-rated so I don’t know if there would be a burning need to retain to move them. Tanev would make more sense for a retention.
If we retained and got a 3rd and 5th this year, I’d be happier with that…it’s still a pretty ####ty return though. At least you could use those assets for a variety of purposes but a 3rd in 2026 is useless IMO.
The only purpose for us to grab significant cap space is to take on a bad contract to get a better return in a trade. I don’t see any other need for it.

Could retain and eat a ####ty contract to make the return better.

I think the real "big picture" test is if we unload the UFAs prior to the deadline and then somehow make the playoffs and win a round. Tre fell into that trap after 2014-15 and bet his chips on the current core at the time (Monahan-Gaudreau-Backlund-Bennett-BroDano).
Of course, we gotta make the dance first and win a round so... good problem to have I guess

It would be funny if TOR made a higher offer but it was Connie's FU to Brad for the mess he left here.

I wish Conroy could get better returns in trades, but I hope he makes up for it by absolutely great drafting and development.
On the plus side we now have 5M of cap space + LTIR.

He was an RFA when the Flames got him not a UFA

Why do that on Zadorov though. He is the least valuable UFA

Chicago actually traded our 5th to Toronto, that we sent them for Carpenter...lol. Wow.
Edit: 5th rounder, not 3rd.

2026 third round pick has to be like a 4th or 5th round value right now. Pretty underwhelming, I guess if they had eaten salary the return would've been better.

Pretty weak return, IMO, especially for a division rival?

Haha this is a fun fact that went unnoticed.
Francis 100% wrong yet again, when faced with the a gaping net to get a prediction/"hunch" right he still somehow misses.
If there was any doubt still, when Francis declares something, the opposite is probably imminent/a guarantee.

Guessing this. Z and his agent ran their mouth off. It lowers trade value. He has not been great since then. Would have loved a 2nd and 5th. Or 3rd and 4th. He is on pace for 4 goals, 20 assists and a -24 rating lol.
He is a 18-22 point guy with a history of ok +\- and no powerplay ability.
He also plays fairly sheltered minutes and is not a shut down guy.
I think its a touch weak for the division rival team.

That's true, but pro-rated doesn't works with LTIR, which 14/31 potential trade partners are using ATM.
