Backlund got away with a pick on Pietrangelo on Weegar's goal. Pietrangelo got away with slashing Backlund pretty good too on the play though.

That wasn't enough contact for a penalty. And Backlund had position and was stationary.
That play happens several times a game.

Especially in OT. It’s all about creating odd man rushes with sneaky picks and speed.

Ice time was very interesting.
Greer actually had fewer shifts than Zary. Ruzicka is the one guy who was kept off the ice and then they seemed to double shift Kadri and Lindholm a lot. Definitely coaching to win in that game.
And Sharangovich with almost 22 minutes.
Huska just referenced the interference non call (without being prompted). It certainly could have been called, probably more obvious if it had been 3 on 3.

Loving the writeups. I don't see games unless they're on CBC, and I just can't take any more of Derek Wills trying to pronounce "Ruzicka," but with game threads and the Game Takes I've got a really good idea of how this new team is moving. Thanks Bingo!

Pretty tough call to make in OT. Doubtful that Pietrangelo is close enough to make a play on Weegar. It's a 1 minute penalty at best.
Now if Backlund was skating backwards. . .
Bingo: Linesman pick up sticks if they are able. Referees generally do not.

It was far more likely that the Flames would have been awarded a penalty shot for any of the three times that the Golden Knights threw the broken goalie stick back in front of the net than it was that Backlund would have been given a penalty for simply standing his ground, which he was entitled to do.

the only two major issues that the team really needs to find a solution to..
Huberdeau just brings every line combo he is on down, Backs cant even get him going.
Rozy just appears indifferent about playing hard even after he sat and watched a game. I think he ends up trade bait.

Yeah I just don't see Ruzicka working out.
He's just not noticeable enough on a consistent basis, and the team has more options now (young forwards) than they've had in the past.
He may end up a waiver claim.

Huberdeau was fine last night, could have easily had 2-3 points, and the game before as well (when he was the reason for the only goal by the Flames). Backlund probably had the worst night of the members of that line.

He had a lot of looks and should have scored.
And then a few of those trying to do something fancy when he doesn't have to and turning the puck over.
It could be one of those you take the good you take the bad with a skilled player, but I think trying to one touch a pass in the neutral zone, or back spin a pass on a break out shouldn't be the go to.
Overall though yeah ... he could easily have had a three point night. Not a bad night from the player at all.

Best Vladar game in nearly a full year. It feels like he has not had that type of command in the net for a very long time.

With a game like that he clearly shouldn't have to wait too long to get another one.
If Markstrom is good to go against Dallas, give Vladar Saturday night. If not let him roll with it.
I was all about getting Wolf into a game in this 6 game homestand, but he's sputtering a bit in the AHL and Vladar is now the hot hand so maybe not.

I think with all creative players you get some of those “too much” plays. But when they work we’re all “there’s the guy we thought we were getting”. The great assist he had against Colorado could have been tipped away and the critics would accuse him of being too fancy.

Can a player push a player to make them go offside? Backlund almost looked offside after getting pushed by Pietrangelo at the blue line

Theoretically, no. But it happens all the time. As do picks like last night.
As long as the contact isn't too egregious (i.e. a player falls down), the refs usually let it go.
