I just wish we'd swap Huberdeau and Zary. #10 has chemistry with #11 and #47 has chemistry with #91... so I guess it makes perfect sense in FlamesWorld to split them all up for the PP.

Nobody deserves to keep their spot on the PP right now because it is beyond useless but I would say I’d be reeeeaaaaaal surprised if Hanifin ends up being the solution.

Looks about as good as it's going to get with the group we have.

I would switch Kadri with Backlund, keeping Kadri with Zary, and Backlund with Huberdeau.
Why switch everything and everyone up so much for the PPs?

Backlund not suited for the net front presence though.
Rosie is big enough to take up space and battle down low.

I'm not talking about positions, just 5-man units

My hope for the PP is simply that they stop playing pitch and catch in the back end and actually work the puck to a spot for a cross-seam one timer or at worst a chance to drive in on an angle and shoot. Right now they do neither...and throw the puck all over the place, mostly just losing it at the blue line when they (finally) get into the zone.

Width , depth, speed and quick precise passing are imperative on the PP BO and PP in zone.

The PP started off and looked well and I am not sure what happened but its gone down the toilet since that time.
It's slow all around. Passes are slow, people holding the puck way too long. You need to make the penalty killers work, and the goalie to move.

Lindholm net front. Backlund carries, Huberdeau passes, Sharangovich one times, Hanifin carries as well and gets pucks to the net.

I think the most road games and travel in the league has hurt the PP too
not a ton of practice time
yeah yeah its an excuse but sometimes excuses have some legitimacy to them

To me the PP is a talent problem. It's not a matter of systems or coaching. You cannot teach a guy to be more skilled and have better head fakes. Least surprising thing about this season. Their leading scorer is on pace for 59 points. It's a team of middle 6 players. Why would a roster constructed like that be expected to have a good PP.

I still don't get why we never tried Looch in front of the net screening. Even have Big Z now stand in front of the goalie. They can't stop what they can't see.

two guys that were over a 100 point pace just over a season ago
I get your point to a certain degree but there are other not that talented teams that have decent power plays
I think they are too cute personally, shoot the ####ing puck

The Flames' PP problem isn't a lack of talen, it is that they are standing still, and moving the puck around too slowly. Four random fans on the PK could defend against it right now.
Also, they can't enter the zone, which is killing them.
Any team can have a good PP, it is a matter of execution.

I said it elsewhere but the Kraken have a pretty darn good power play % this year and no way do they have more talent.

They have speed, which we lack on our powerplay.

I don't think most powerplays live off rush chances. The speed at most helps on zone entries by pushing back the D a tad.
There's really only one player on the regular powerplay you'd call a slow skater anyway.

Yeah, some teams without stars have a good PP< and some teams with stars, don't.
One thing that I think is under-rated, is time together. PPs, need lots of set plays, and guys knowing where each other will be. Repetition and familiarity. PPs that have been together for years (like COL, TBL, etc) usually have really strong PPs. Having said that, PIT is really struggling with theirs - you never know.

And PP production comes from being set up in the zone - speed (skating) is almost irrelevant.
But what does matter is moving the puck quickly, and keeping the PP in motion. The Flames are doing neither of these things right now.
