Avalanche 3 Flames 1
Avalanche 3 Flames 1
- Some tough bounces in the second put the Flames behind
- They push hard for the final 30 but can't solve the Av's goaltender
- Road trip ends 2-2-0

Vladar was fantastic in the 3rd period. Probably wanted the floater back. Gilbert was more to blame on the wraparound than the goalie was.
Hard to win with when only a scoring once. Too bad they couldn't bank a couple from the Dallas game.

You can't be serious
and the 3rd period shots were 15-6 Flames

Right. I'm pretty sure that Zad, with his reach, could have knocked that puck off the Avs stick at the corner, if he had kept skating and hadn't given up on the play.
Is it me or do a lot of them just "stand" around waiting when a couple more strides could be the difference.

It was pretty inexplicable that Zadorov missed reading that wrap around. Plus, Vladar greatly overplayed the short side making it so he couldn't recover. Not sure what either of them were thinking on that play.

Zadorov arguable has to stay in front to guard against a trailer (except he never looked around). But at some point he should move th the corner of the next, because even a pass out front has to come from there.
Looked like Vladar overslid on the right and got his leg caught on the post, so he couldn’t get over to the left properly.

Yeah lots of blame to go around in that one. Both defensemen and Vladar out of position.

Flames down to 31% chance of making the playoffs now.
West has 7 teams that look like they're home and clear, 5 teams fighting for one spot, and four teams out of it.

Disagree...once Z was checking out of the play, Gilbert had to go to him....then Vladar with whatever that was compounded everything.
Need Zadarov to be better than he was, and Vladar to be way better on a pretty benign scoring chance. That was awful hockey.
For sure agree with you on the PP woes. Just brutal.
No one moving with pace because they are so stuck on the bump back. Defending that thing the way the Flames do it is way to easy.
Savard has taken an average unit and turned it into complete nonsense. Not sure why he is even around.

Who is the 7th who is home and clear?
And I wouldn’t count Minny and the oilers out quite yet.

A defenceman never has to chase a player around the net, it takes him out of position. Stopping at the net lets him defend that player from both posts.
If his partner got back it would be more clear, but going behind the net took him out of the play.
But whatever ... terrible over play by Vladar results in a goal and then the play gets over analyzed.

Four teams out of it (by this model 81-97% chance of missing) are the Sharks, Hawks, Oilers and Wild.
Teams that look to be in ...
6 teams with less than 25% chance of missing (Knights, Kings, Canucks, Avalanche, Jets and Stars). Blues a 43% chance of missing and less safe, but a big ledge up on the middle teams.

The Blues! They are certainly not home and cooled
Also, the Flames have played 7 home games and 14 road...pretty tough to pro rate their position

No kidding, we know for sure the goalie shouldn't chase the player behind the net lol

I certainly don’t count a team with a 57% chance of making the playoffs as home and clear.
I wouldn’t consider a team with a 75% chance of making the playoffs as home and clear.

Then don't!
I'm just ranking them in groups. If you don't like my terminology I'm good with it.
There appears to be 3 ledges ..... maybe 4
Looking pretty good but not totally safe - 6 teams
Looking better than other teams but not as safe as above - 1 team
In the middle and in trouble because it looks like only one of them will make it - 5 teams
Off to a terrible start and need to win a lot soon or they're screwed - 4 teams

An (accidental) overslide makes sense because it looked like he was trying to protect against the puck being shot from below the goal line and through the side of the net.

So six teams in the middle and only 2 of them will make it...that's a 33% chance for any given of the six teams to make the playoffs.
What are the flames chances again?
