I agree Toffoli’s production has nothing to do with anything. I figured he’d put up numbers this year with the likely linemates hed have.

And due to the time of the year they are made as the Toffoli deal was close to the TDL (I can't remember exactly when it was made). This should have Flames fans looking forward to the upcoming returns for the UFA's, as a result.

February 14th, about 5 weeks before the deadline. I remember Treliving saying he didn't want to get into a bidding war with other teams and wanted that extra time for Toffoli to gel with the team.

Would be curious with the TOI as well. I'd imagine Toffoli is being used a bit more.

Are you saying Lindholm isn't the solution with Huberdeau?
Because, in case you haven't noticed, Lindholm and Huberdeau are no longer together. Lindholm is playing with Sharangovich, and they are arguably the Flames' best line right now. Last 5 games:
Mangiapane..: 1 - 4 - 5
Lindholm......: 3 - 4 - 7
Sharangovich: 3 - 2 - 5

Once that's the plan you just add back as much value as they can. It's looking like the Flames added some decent value. Hopefully Suniev adds to the mix.
Those that wrote him off as a fourth liner early in the season ... sigh
|
Despite being 10th in TOI among forwards, and 12th in PP TOI, he is 6th in points and 5th in EVP. He is on pace for 20 - 20 - 40, which is just what Conroy thought he was getting - a solid middle 6 guy that can score and play anywhere in the lineup.
Anyone that sees him as a 4th liner is just being obtuse.

The crazy part is that Backlund and Kadri are building such great chemistry with their linemates that they could be the top six centers on a successful team. Getting way ahead of things, but the team could trade Lindholm and still be good.

If Backlund and Kadri are your top two centres you are not going to be a successful team, at least not in terms of any real success.
If you are saying one of them could be a top 6 center with a better player as the #1 maybe, but even that is doubtful at their age.

Points in 8 of their last 10 games with a non-functioning PP - not too shabby.

I will happily eat crow as someone who wrote him off too early. But it's also not the smartest to judge him based on a five game heater. Let's see if he keeps his current play going, reverts to his early play, or lands in the middle. It's too early to know what he will ultimately be...but I love what he is doing right now.

Fair, but I didn't do that, I simply quoted his stats for the first 20 games - no cherry picking.
Five or 10 games into the season is too early to judge, IMO. But at 20, I think we can start to make measured assessments.

First 10 games: 1G, 1A 2P, -4
Next 10 games: 4G, 4A, 8P, 0
Is he on a heater, or is he settling into his new team, after not playing much in the last half of last season, and getting juggled around the lineup in the first part of this season?
Probably a little bit of both, making the 20-game stats a better indicator

I am curious if Sharangovich would work with Huberdeau . If it does, it would be better long term since Lindholm should be on his way out soon.
I know Lindholm doesn’t work with Huberdeau

Husks having had a few years with the farmhands gives him a small head start on the other coaching staff in the league. Cool to see that going to good use

I'm pretty sure Huska's last year in the AHL was Dube's first year in the AHL. Which means he didn't get to coach the likes of Zary, Pelletier, Duehr, Ruzicka, or Pospisil in the A.
It was mostly Love that had a few years with this current crop of farmheads.
In the minors Huska trained Andersson, Mangiapane, Dube(6 games), Backlund(juinor), and Kylington from the current roster.
