You’re more likely to find a sour, or a chocolate stout - not to mention 17 varieties of hopped-up IPA - on the menu of a bar or craft brewery than a simple english-style brown ale. So Trad it is.
Hopping it up allows you to turn the beer over quicker. As ageing it for smoothness is not necessary. Basically, it’s all ####.

And "craft brewery" ≠ "microbrewery, or smaller".

And for Pilsner, I often have a Fahr Pils. Overall, Fahr makes great beer.
Five of Diamonds is a pilsner I enjoy.

Big Rock is local and good, who cares about the semantics about the rest. They’ve been disrespected my entire drinking life in Calgary.

I can’t say they’ve been disrespected. Big Rock and Wild Rose both make good beers. Are they beer snob beers? No. But they shouldn’t be even in that kind of category. They just make a decent beer that doesn’t assault your taste buds, but also isn’t some inoffensive crap like the club soda and barley stuff from Coors/Molson/Bud/Labatts/etc.

A bottle of Grasshopper was pretty much the go to at parties whenever the other choices were the usual domestic garbage.

I’ve heard the IPAs are the easiest beers with the quickest turnaround. Not sure if it’s true. For the brewer.

The hops just make me feel gross. Makes me tired and my guts get rocked.

Even the micro brew brown ales have hops from hell it seems.

Bought some Kilkenny last night and we remarked that it is truly the beer of alcoholics. Easy drinking with a PH less than water. The carbonation is even tame.

Brown Ales are probably my favourite as well. Love me some Trad, definitely the beer I buy the most

I don't hate IPA's, there are some good ones out there, just so many crappy ones flooded the markets that now it's not even worth it to get a good one, so screw the whole thing

If you like Kilkenny give Tetley's English Ale a try. Was my favourite before stupid celiac.

Not bad, but as I said I think the Cream of Manchester is superior

IPAs are nasty, 🤮

Also, the make me stuffed up in my sinuses

I put Trad in my top 5 beers

Bought a craft IPA growler yesterday because my son was coming over and he likes them. He only had one glass and now I have to finish the growler, the cad.

You know what grinds my gears, my parents won’t drive 2.5 hours to visit me and their only grandchild. Like, ever. And not only that, I get heaps of guilt for not visiting them. I’m constantly calling them, FaceTime’ing them, sending photos and videos, notes, invites, plans for fun things to do if they came to visits, all of it. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And they complain to their friends that I don’t come to visit. It’s infinitely easier for them to travel than I with my kid who can’t sleep in a car, and our dog.

####s insane and has resulted in me not even understanding my own reality for the last 5 months. Thank god for my wife to help give me clarity so I’m not lost in my own head about it constantly. This is just a nonsense rant I had to type out.

Most of my family has been like this my whole life. Always get told "Oh you have to come see us more!" when most of them have literally never been to my house once

Their copper ale has been one of my staples for years, but I just realized it's been months since the last time I grabbed some. I will have to rectify that promptly

What about Newcastle? It used to be one of my go to beers to drink with the father in law. Also, Big Rock used to make (maybe they still do) Warthog which was a brown ale. Only 4.5 % so lighter. It used to be in my rotation.

Remember that you can’t control their behaviour. You have to not care that they tell their friends how terrible their son is and you have to accept that they won’t be the grandparents you want them to be regardless of what you do. Once you do that you have the power and you can establish what you think is reasonable without guilt

The challange is not caring what they think because you have 30-40 years of that ingrained into you. Reddit has some interesting groups on entitled grandparents if you are looking for people to share your experiences with.

Newkie Brown is great, but not the same. Kilkenny and Tetley's are, I dunno, softer?
