If I were Fleury I'd just make that my official mask for the rest of the season. Can they really say no to that? Markstrom has Johnny Cash on his mask, it's not like he was a great guy.

The NHL is ridiculous. A few ignorant people get upset over pride jerseys and they cave. What an embarrassing league.

If I am the organization I tell him to wear it anyhow. Then when the NHL comes down on us I use public outrage against them to watch them backpedal from their ridiculous stance.

Hockey wasn't for me. My mom couldn't even afford skates or a stick when i was a kid in the 80s and 90s. I was fortunate enough to have went to a high school that had an attached Leisure centre, and to make extra money, I worked as a water slide monitor/ lifeguard at the swimming pool. That gave be free access to swim and free skate rentals.
So, hockey isn't for everyone. But pandering to apese the social media outrage in the name "minority people", is.

This is all about the NHL being afraid some goaltender wears a rainbow themed mask.
 What is boils down to.

As a consequence, everything else gets tossed aside.

Why would the NHL give a flying #### what colors and designs are on his mask? Goalies are allowed to do whatever the #### the want for their mask designs on literally any other occasion. It's not like the mask is 'offensive' either.
If this is about following some sort of process, who gives a ####? it's a made up sports league with made up 'rules', which can just as easily be waved by humans who created them to begin with, at any time.

What a garbage position by the NHL. Lighten the #### up.

The NHL is so dumb. What a nice mask and a beautiful tie-in that it was to honor his wife at the same time.

So wait, aren't the Chicago Blackhawks violating the NHL rules everytime they suit up?

NHL doing everything it can to ensure it remains at the bottom of the major North American sports.
If the NFL allows for this, then what is the NHL afraid of? How many racist, bigoted fans does the league feel they need to protect? Why are you even doing a Native night, if you won't allow native apparel on the players? Dafug?

 League is so fake.

NHL is also preventing Fleury from wearing that mask during the warmup. What an effin joke! You can have pride colors but not this mask? If I was the Wild management, I'd tell Fleury to wear it and take on the fine and go to court with it. Total BS!

Quick, switch it up to a mask painted with white men on horseback brandishing muskets!
 The league might feature you!

Not gonna lie, when I read "Fleury" and "mask" in the title my mind went to another Fleury.
The NHL is so archaic sometimes.

The only reason I can see the league doing this is that the league doesn't want to start differentiating between causes. Hockey is for everyone but the NHL is a business and "just business" is its slogan. It does everything it can to maximize profits, and reduce potential headaches.
Personally, I don't mind leaving politics out of hockey, and a player can always support a cause on his own personal platforms. Also, before anyone feels like being outraged at me I'm not suggesting that Native American Heritage night is political. That said I'm sure there would be quite a bit of outrage if a player showed up with an Israeli or a Palestinian jersey for warmups right now.

Considering the events of the past few years one would think that Minnesota would be desperate to attach itself to any piece of racial 'Goodwill' that comes its way.
