If you've got white sugar, you only need to buy some molasses and you can make your own brown sugar.

chatting with someone on the elevator and mentioned sugar. they said "oh yeah. I heard about that a week ago and got a couple bags"

Now it grinds my gears that it was common knowledge a week ago and I had no idea until it was too late.
I don't watch tv news, but I'd have thought print media would have had it somewhere.
dammit.

Sugar tip: Go where everybody doesn't actually go for sugar. It may cost ya 50 cents or a dollar more but they will probably have it. Small independent shops, pharmacies, specialty Italian, Greek, Hungarian, European stores, gas stations and obscure dollar stores and mini markets.

Plenty of sugar available, just don't go where 10k people a day visit looking for the same 2 cases of stock that arrived that morning.

Or do what us Greeks do and use high quality honey for a lot of baking, desserts and other sweetened things coffee, tea, cooking. Get the high quality, non pasteurized version, grade #1. It costs a little more but the taste and the nutritional/anti oxidant benefits are higher

I remember hearing a fluff piece on 660 as I was driving about a week ago regarding a bakery having problems getting sugar beyond a small, rationed bit, and they were complaining that it was enough for now, but that with their busy holiday season approaching, they were already refusing orders.

Then I forgot about it until last night when a friend on Facebook grumbled about Superstore being out.

I have yet to hear/read about the actual strike, or how long it's been going on, or why or anything like that, which is a bit odd.

Besides the effects to the workers the sugar strike is a good thing, I don't remember the last time we actually bought sugar, we have a bag in the pantry for at least 5 years. We don't bake as much as some but we could use less sugar in our lives. If I could go back in time and stop my young self from making kool-aid and drinking soda I would.

Now of course I preach less sugar and i'm guilty of consuming sugar free alternatives which could ultimately be just as bad or worse, we shouldn't need either.

Meh, it's okay to enjoy life, though. Some sugary desserts or treats are truly enjoyable and can really put a smile on your face.

That's why we should get rid of the swear filter on the forum.

I’ll be putting the bags of sugar my wife bought over the last few years on eBay. Now if only the salad dressing manufacturers would go on strike.

Hear hear!

The fact that I have numerous infractions on my account for having too many number signs in a post is hilarious

It's been a few years since the last one, but yeah. I never try to get around the filter, just let it do its thing. Guess that was still too much for a while

Iirc it was in game threads when the Flames would get scored on. The post would just be something dumb like "####'s sake, are you ####ing kidding me? #### #### ####ing goddammit" which is certainly a pretty silly post, but yeah caught a few warnings and infractions for that

I’m tempted to test that but don’t want to taint my clean record.
