Christopher Hitchens . . . "How Religion Poisons Everything."
In his new book, "God Is Not Great, How Religion Poisons Everything" Christopher Hitchens pretty much blows up the world as many would know it . . . . and perhaps helpfully, he's an equal opportunity insulter.
"What Did Mohammed Say? Who Knows?" Hitchens blows up Islam real good in an excerpt from his new book:
For the record, I'm pretty far left. Evangelism of really any kind boggles my mind. I mean, if God is omniscient, why does He need me to go out and pimp for him? I simply can't imagine that God gives two-squirts of hot pee whether or not I score a touchdown, win an Oscar, or espouse His virtues on the subway.
I think that I would read this book. I would think that he is going to draw the ire of a lot of people on all sides, and if his hatred by those who are religious is true; he is in for a lot of "practicing what he preaches".

Does Hitchens make his argument? Will he need a bodyguard after exploding Islam?
I think his association with Salman Rushdie and Paul Wolfowitz is more likely to harm him (physically or professionally) than his writing against Islam. He seemingly has an issue with all three Abrahamic religions.
He is quite bizarre, kind of all over the map.

Hitchens is a very interesting guy. He's got extreme views and you can never nail him down on a political bias. The guy is a conservative for the most part, but has no time for the religious right.

I like Hitchens. The guy in no PC drone that we get so much of nowadays. He skewers those on either side of the spectrum with equal abandon!
He has been tearing a whole into the wingnut-left for a while now for their saddleling up to Islamic fascists. I think he has a couple of fatwas on him already!
I love this part!
At last, this was the Hitchens we had all come to see -- not the pudgy man at the pulpit, picking his teeth with his glasses, but the chain-smoking bon vivant, rapier-witted popper of ideological balloons, tipper of sacred cows, Trotskyist neo-con, accomplished drinker of Johnnie Walker Black, and the only man in the world who could denounce Mother Teresa as a promoter of poverty and then be invited by the Vatican to comment on her beatification.

Me too. I saw him on AC360 a week or so ago and from the preview they showed to hype his interview I thought the guy would be a complete crackpot. Then I watched the interview and couldnt disagree with a single thing the guy says...he is very well versed and all of his points are well researched and hit home with me. I think I might pick up his book.

It stems from an original Harper's article. I don't know if you can find it online, but I imagine it's possible.
Harpers, or Vanity Fair? Hitchens is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair, so I think that probably appeared in Vanity Fair. Harpers also seems like the wrong magazine for him to be published in, not really aligning with his political ideology.
Ayrahb linked to the Hitchen interview on Anderson Cooper 360 in the Falwell thread. Here is the Youtube of it. (I figured it would fit here)
