I know the last time I had a windshield done at Cal-Alta they gave me the option of OEM or aftermarket glass. I went aftermarket because it was less than half the cost and it was an older vehicle. I did some research and found that the aftermarket glass is generally not as strong and it can have issues with optics as well but I wasn't too concerned.

I don't recall being offered a choice between OEM and aftermarket, which means I probably ended up with aftermarket. I'll keep more of an eye on it this time.

That we all put up with the in plane course about how to use a goddamn seatbelt. And we all sit there and put up with it, and there are people who have to pretend they are serious about it. You couldn’t do this in the preceding 60 minutes we’ve been sitting here.

And then repeat it all in French. Probably why air travel is so expensive

The twit on the motorcycle on John Laurie westbound stop light today shortly after 11 am I believe who at the stoplight went through the middle and 20 cars in the proper lanes.
Unfortunately guys like him give a creedance to stereotypes of motorcyclists doing whatever they want even when it is dangerous.

Lane splitting should be legal.

The only problem I see is doing this when drivers here don’t expect it. Calgary drivers can be pretty aggressive towards anything they see as a transgression. I wouldn’t do it because you have no idea what a driver here would do.

No it shouldn't. It makes sense in Asia where the majority of traffic is made up of small mopeds/scooters and car drivers are acutely aware of them, but trying it here would just result in more crashes and injuries

Do not expect it because it is illegal. Even on home road here in Calgary and likely other areas - vehicles and regular cyclists share the lane single file.
If a vehicle in a legal lane started to move to the other lane with a guy doing crap like this there is injury to the motorcyclist and damage to multiple vehicles.

Even if it were legal, I wouldn’t trust the drivers here to not be dicks about it.

Not necessarily. California allows lane splitting and they have a lower vehicle (and specifically motorcycle) fatality rate than most other states. A few others allow lane filtering (which is what this technically was since all the vehicles were stopped). It’s extra impressive given the number of tourists on the road who come from places where lane splitting isn’t legal and therefore aren’t used to it.

The US also has huge variances in motorcycle helmet laws, California (and maybe 20 ish other states) require all riders to wear a helmet. The majority of states have age based helmet laws and a few states have 0 laws regarding helmet use. That presumably would play into the fatality rate pretty heavily

If society is cool with risk taking and suicide then let’s go.
