What? You're moving goal posts an not making sense. As usual.
I'm saying Calgary is going to have to take a cap dump to trade Lindholm to Washington.
This isn't that complex. This is the nature of a cap world where large contract need accomodation, no matter if a team is competing now or not.

And I’ve correctly pointed out that they don’t have to, because Washington can fit Lindholm’s contract in without dumping cap both this year and with the extension next year.
And, even if they had to, they wouldn’t dump Wilson who is actually contributing beyond the pace of his contract.
What’s with the personal shot?

How can they fit Lindholm in with fehervary coming off IR? It. Doesn't. Work.
And even next year, Oshie and Kuznetsov are still there, Mantha comes off assuming Lindholm is his replacement, and they have to resign at minimum six RFAs.
Where are they going to replace Oshie and Kuznetsov without spending a dime to replace their roster spots and still be in win now mode? By that point you're going to have a 39 year old Ovechkin and .... Lindholm? Is that win now?
Makes very little sense.

Player on IR, is already on the cap. They can exceed cap by $7.2m if Backstrom and Pacioretty stay on LTIR

Winnipeg makes sense for Lindholm.
They need to upgrade thier second line centre role, have the prospects to make it work and we could make it work cap wise if we take back a bad contract.
If Lambert was included I would be very happy even though he's still raw but the talent is there.

Lindholm wanted $9.3M to stay in Calgary he will likely want at least that much or more to consider staying in Winnipeg.

Fehervary isn’t on LTIR, so his cap isn’t included in a portion of the $7M+ they can spend. It. Does. Work. If Patches comes back, they can send down a cheaper player and the amount they can bury in the AHL allows them to afford Lindholm without any other moves.
Lindholm is Backstrom’s replacement next year (whose $9+M will still be on LTIR), they can use Mantha’s money to re-sign guys and bolster the roster. Not every RFA is going to get a raise or even get signed again. Edmundson is also coming off the books and will probably be replaced by one of those RFAs or a someone cheaper. They can also make trades that aren’t one of their leading scorers, because that seems smarter than trading Wilson.
Then, you’ve got Oshie and Kuznetsov, whose money will be used to replace… Oshie and Kuznetsov.
Again, why would they trade Wilson when they don’t have to?

Backstrom is on LTIR. Lindholm replaces Mantha and then you add another 3 mil to manthas existing contract.
Again, where is the space with Calgary NOT taking a cap dump?
It. Doesn't. Work.

If we took back Schmidt they would have the room to sign Lindy long-term.

Clearly the problem is that you don’t understand how LTIR works, who is on it, and Washington’s cap situation.
It does work. No matter how many times you say otherwise and how many periods you put between your words. I would’ve just stuck to trying to defend why they would include Wilson in the deal, personally, as at least you it could’ve just been chalked up to a subjectively bad view of Wilson instead of you actually not knowing what you’re talking about.
Backstrom on LTIR means they can replace his contract with Lindholm’s now by using LTIR. Once his contract is over, that money becomes cap space that Lindholm’s contract takes up instead of having to use LTIR.

Anyone see Dawson Mercer as a fit for a potential Hanifin swap? He is off to an extremely slow start with only 4pts in 16GP but flirted with 30-30 last year on the 2nd year of his ELC.. 22 y/o right shot centre.
Devils can’t seem to keep the puck out of their own end and they would likely covet a minute muncher like Hanifin who they could potentially lock up long term. This year seems to be the opening of their window.

I would have said before that getting someone like Mercer for Hanifin is crazy, but Hanifin is young and a great defenceman. Still not expecting any too young players coming back in any of our trades though.

Easy to convince Hanifin to sign long term in Jersey. Great up and coming team, great location for an American kid. I think he’d be a great fit there.

I wonder if we proceeded with a sign and trade whether we could retain on his remaining contract without retaining on the new contract signed.

They’ll pay rental price for Hanifin and Lindholm. No less, no more.
a low first and B prospects or mid round picks at most
No blue chip or ready good young players

This isn't how trades like this have been made in the last couple of years. Calgary has already allowed teams to contact agents in relation to extensions. It was a part of the manager's meeting release.

They would negotiate a new contract before the trade, we would trade him with retention and then sign his new contract. Just had to be in the “correct” order but it would work.

Which would fit perfectly with your doom and gloom approach to this team. I think you're wrong.
