Dallas also makes a ton of sense for Hanifin. Have him play with Miro on the top pairing. Which in turn would slot everyone more accordingly.

Getting back a player like Mavrik Bourque along with a first would help the franchise with the youth movement as he is essentially ready to play right now. He is a Shifty right shot centre/winger who has a great hockey IQ. Somewhat similar play style to Zary.

If we took back one of thier bad contracts (like Faska for example) they may even be able to add slightly.

We will have to take back salary regardless

That’s why it’s difficult to make a deal
Nobody has room to add for just prospects and picks

True for some, but my buddy works in North Las Vegas. I’ve seen it for myself, it’s a hellhole.

Then you take back Faska (if he waives) to make the cap work with some slight retention on the Flames side.

The problem with a Dallas trading a Bourque, is that those are the type of players that they really need to make the cap work going forward. He likely has more value to Dallas than a first.

I don’t think they’ll give him up, especially in addition to a first.

Dallas is so close though, like with another one or two solid players they can start to be considered favorites to win it all. That's why I think it is possible, they are about as close as a team can get.

Dallas also doesn't have the room at Centre to give him top 6 ice time long term as both Hintz and Johnson are going nowhere. Moreover, they have Stankoven who looks like he is going to slot into thier top 6 right winger spot very soon.

In short I don't see room for him with thier team in a significant role for the next two or three seasons, he is a luxury for them at the moment and they are at the point where they need to add as much as possible to push them over the edge.

The fact also that Hanifin is young and that the market they are in is very favorable for an extension lends me to believe that they would entertain the deal.

It's a win/win for both teams.

if we trade with Dallas we absolutely should be targeting Stankoven. he's exactly what we need.

He is their #1 prospect, I really don't think they want to trade him.

You may get a team’s first round pick but you’ll never get their top prospect. They are the real gold.

Nope they all can go.
Hanifin is the last person who’s resigning at this point.

Washington does seem like a decent partner for Lindholm. They are off to a good start and with Backstrom done it would be a good fit.

Can they get McMichael/Lapierre+1st 24+2nd 25 for an extended Lindy?

Ooof. That’s quite a hail. Would love it but can’t see Washington giving up that much. They need their young guys for cap purposes too.

It was just one of those young guys and the 2 picks. Flames can eat 50% and the caps announce the extension after the trade. I am hoping if teams get to talk extension before that the flames can get a young player, 1st and 2nd. Maybe that is too wishful on my part?

Something tells me Washington would be trying hard to get Tom Wilson in there as a cap dump.

You don't trade for a guy like Lindholm and not shed existing salary.

The extension they gave him hasn’t kicked in yet so I doubt they would try and move him

Tom Wilson would of been a fit a couple years ago but stay away from that contract. It is going to age worse than Kadri's.

Of course stay away. But Washington isn't going to just absorb Lindy's new price tag. Something's gotta give, and the Flames would likely need to eat cap.

I'm torn on him. He has great trade value. If someone wants to overpay - even better.

My issue is moment you trade a guy like hanafin - you are spending next 5 years to get a guy like hanafin right after.

I'd have no issues rolling the dice around a D core now and the future around weegar, Anderson and hanafin.

But he won’t sign, it seems. Like last time around - the Flames were happy to roll with Gaudreau and Tkachuk. But they couldn’t.
