We are now further from the 2004 run than the 2004 run was from the 1989 Stanley Cup!

I’m sure there’s plenty around the league but Flames wise, I can’t think of another one like it in my time following the team.
The Beers for Mullen trade was franchise altering. The moment Joe Mullen put the Flames jersey on the Flames became Stanley Cup contenders.

It was a Sunday becuase the Flames had played in Edmonton the night before, and we had headed up there for our then annual trip. Flames lost in OT.

And yes, recall having the radio on at about Red Deer on the drive home and Sutter talking about Kiprusoff. Turek was fine but not lights out. Clearly there was a goalie glut in SJ and Darryl knew it and was part of it 2 years earlier.

Mike Bullard and parts for Doug Gilmour and parts was pretty important too

A friend got tickets to Grey Cup in Regina (a story by itself)but I remember grabbing a copy of the Sun at a gas station driving on the way back and reading about the trade and Kipper. Unfortunately I think the Eskimos won.

Knowing that the 20 year anniversary of the 04 cup run is coming up and just 6 months or so makes me feel incredibly old

I was at the Dome for Kipper's first game here. I remember the guy I went to the game with whispering with that look on his face of knowing something super-secretive: "Sutter brought in this young Russian goalie from SJ; I've heard he's real good"... LOL...

I remember that game well. I had a six-game Sport Select ticket that day. Got the first five games correct and had picked Flames-Oilers tie. Smyth scored with like 15 seconds left in the game (on McLennan if I remember right). I would have won something like $4,000! I never played a Sport Select ticket again after that haha.
