I'm sure they did, but it's tough to get rich people to go to Vegas in the summer. Financial considerations trump racing considerations every time.

Pretty common in deserts.

Quote:
Water vapor in the air traps heat close to the ground like a giant invisible blanket and stops it from dissipating into the atmosphere, according to World Atlas. Air with high humidity also requires more energy to heat up, meaning it also takes more time for that energy to dissipate and for the surroundings to cool down. Therefore, a lack of humidity in deserts allows these arid places to quickly heat up but also rapidly cool.

The roads that make up the circuit will start to shut from 5pm on each of the three days of F1 track activity and reopen from 2am. They will be what is described as "hot" - ready for track action - and handed over to officials from the FIA, F1's governing body, from 7pm each evening.
It was probably a non-starter to shut the strip during daytime hours...but then again I would think the evening might actually be the more lucrative time for commerce. It's about the nighttime visual and start times that are not in the absolute middle of the night in Europe (but its still an early morning start there)

Am I missing something? Vegas is between 15 and 22 degrees during race time for the most part. Is that considered cold in the racing world?

Track temperature will be some of the lowest temps they have seen. The tires won't fire and they will have zero grip. Might see weaving on the straights to get temps up. FP2 is going to be really interesting.

In shocking news...I did not win this week ...other non-winners include the wanker Machine Gun Kelly, Charles Leclerc, and people that bought fully marked up tix to Vegas.

Congrats to Ryan Coke who wins the week after grabbing extra point from fastest lap. He had 2 slotted and 7 top ten picks correct and 16pts. A seven way tie for 2nd.

No change at the top between DoubleK and bizaro86...the lead is still 12pts with 2 races left.

Mccree has a solid shot at 2nd though and is only 2pts back of bizaro86.

Spoiler!

I know Tool Shed has done the last two. Not sure if they're going to this week.

Track temperature is very different. Daytime race may have ambient temp 30C and track temp 45C.

Other night races start shortly after sunset so the tarmac tends to retain heat for a while (and ambient rarely goes below 25C).

Sunset in Vegas is like 4:33pm today...the track heat will be totally gone by 10pm.

The drivers and teams are expecting a #### show. Whenever Max has been interviewed about it you can see him being very careful with what he says because he expects it to be pretty bad.

A new track with unknown conditions probably makes it harder to make tire/strategy predictions, and makes upsets more likely.

Of course, with all respect to Flames Rule's guess above - I still think the only way Verstappen finishes below 4th is if he DNF.

I might pick Sargeant to win.

Or Latifi.

And you'd be wrong. This is the week I go 10/10.

@KelV...Sargeant is paying 800:1...Guanyu is somehow at 900:1. Norris is 9.3:1 and Max is 1.3:1.

Speaking of the King tho...anyone know what Latifi is up too?

Fun fact: there were three tyre manufacturers at that race.
