Iginla was a prospect who hadn't played an NHL game.
The clip was suggesting the Flames want play now guys in their mid 20s.

No one here is suggesting to not trade for elite young prospects.
If we trade our UFAs for a bunch of Yegors, we're stupid. There's no next Iginla's in that return.

I didn't hear mid 20s

also, I think the Flames have an elite goalie already and more quality to sell than most rebuilding teams

they will get picks and players and have cap space to use for more assets

He said the Flames want a top prospect and then brings up the Sharangovich trade as an example. In what world was Sharangovich a top prospect. Tanev for Garland would be the same as Sharangovich and they already rejected that and then mentions Hoglander who he thinks is expendable. Canucks slant on that entire clip.

Dhaliwal is making assumptions.

He wasn't quoting anyone from the Flames, he was making an interpretation, based on the Toffoli deal. And remember, the Toffoli deal happened in the off-season, when the Flames were still waiting to see what this team would look like. Now, we have a situation where Lindholm, Hanifin, Zadorov and Tanev are all likely to be shipped out - in that scenario, you aren't looking to continue to be competitive today, because you can't be.

That Flames will be much more open to picks and younger prospects now, than they were in the summer. Because now, this iteration of the team is done.

lol @ them pushing Hoglander as the "ask" the Flames would covet.
What a terrible sell job.

Yea can we please have the questionable work ethic guy who cant break the Cannucks lineup and has been a healthy scratch.

He's not a prospect anymore, hes a tweener who cant stay in the NHL.

Hopefully. Seems to be a similar narrative coming from the media right now, though. I guess we will see when the first trade domino falls.

Remove the whole hypothetical part of where they to make Tanev to Canucks work. If the reported ask from the Flames is a top prospect then how is it a similar ask to the Sharangovich trade.

I live in Victoria. I watch a lot of canucks games. I also go to abbotsford games. Hog wouldn't be close to value. I'd rather get Bains before him lol.

If we trade with the nucks I want it to be painful..

Zadarov+Dube for Garland and one of Lekkermaki or Willander.

Otherwise F trading with Vancouver.

Vancouver should trade us both and go for it with acquiring Anderson

I would do Bains over Hoglander in a hot second. Please take him.

He can crack the Canucks line up? He's literally in and out of the Canucks top 12 on a regular basis currently. His issue isn't work ethic and effort. It's a 22 year old guy learning to play defense at the NHL level while playing in the NHL. It's not going to be linear and it's not going to be smooth.

He's 22 who has had more time in the NHL than the AHL and is currently in the NHL and has been since the season started. I think you're correct he's not a prospect. He's a bottom line NHL player with a ceiling to move up over the coming years. I don't want to trade him for a player like Zadorov or Tanev. I think that would be a mistake and misuse of assets.

Fans are getting excited at the prospect of a full rebuild, but I don’t think that’s what Conroy intends. He’s going to trade the pending UFAs for picks, but they’re not throwing in the towel on this roster. I expect their goal will be to make the playoffs next season. So 20-24 year players who are in the AHL or have some NHL seasoning meet that agenda better than 2nd round picks.

Maybe...or your owner is going to see this hot start as their best chance to win (while Petersson is still somewhat cheap) and going to say "Prospects be damned"

Based on your owners history I know which way I'd bet the Canucks going.

Sure, that could happen. Since Rutherford has got here we haven't seen many of those Aquiweenie moves though.

If we're looking for mediocre mid-20s players in return for these players (like Sharongovich) this "re-tool" will be ineffective and painful.

Re-tools are never going to be effective. It's a dumb idea. Just blow it up and start again.

I hope not. They'd have to hit lightning in a bottle and get a #1C and and two #2/3 dmen in the trades.

The Toffoli trade is the example and that is what Sharongovich is. Teams don’t trade good young players for older players (guys like Tanev and Zadorov)

While there is certainly part of me that can see the Flames really trying to fast track this thing I also believe they are not looking for more Toffoli like trades and will make the best moves for the long term health of the franchise.

Mediocre re-tool for a mediocre team that will get mediocre results and end up....Mediocre.
