I tend to think the public health care system is the most important thing this country has. Therefore any threat of privatization needs to be taken deadly serious.

I think every party campaigns on this stuff when they're not in power and then immediately goes back on those promises once they're in charge. The CPC did it under Harper, the Liberals did it under Trudeau, etc.
Both of those parties are a lost cause at this point because they're both beholden to corporations and the wealthy.
I'm not saying the federal NDP wouldn't eventually succumb to that stuff, but they're the only party left who doesn't have a track record of corruption and nepotism/cronyism. That's why they will continue to get my vote for the foreseeable future.
Recycling the same two parties and expecting different results is lunacy to me.

And what are the odds that this person will actually be a reputable scientist or fluent in science? Zero or none?

This is one of the most narcissistic, egotistical, dangerous political moves by a Conservative premier all to prop up conspiracies, misinformation, and some misguide cult-like belief in political tyranny.

"Chief Science Officer". Something wrong with the Chief Medical Officer we already have? Oh, no not that kind of science, I get it. What a train wreck.
It'll be a guy with an honorary PhD from a religious college.

Chief Science Officer is the person who issues the "healthy immune system" certifications. You can sign up online and get one too!

When Stephen Harper was PM, he appointed a quack chiropractor to serve as his government's Minister of Science. I guarantee Danielle Smith will find someone with even worse scientific credentials than that already incredibly low bar for this new position.

During another future health crisis, I will not be listening to this premier. I also won't be listening to the freedom-loving, piss-smelling, Manning-approved, science-denying, invermectin 'doctors' that they appoint either. I will listen to educated, intelligent medical professionals who know what they're talking about.
Smith is the worst premier and the UCP the worst governing party in the history of this province.

Manning's recommendation for a new science panel echoes a promise Smith made on her first day as premier in October 2022.
At that time Smith announced Hinshaw would be replaced, and that Smith would instead draw on the advice from a new hand-picked team of science advisers.
She said she was keen to hear from Paul Alexander, an adviser to former U.S. president Donald Trump. Alexander dismissed COVID-19 vaccines as "bioweapons" and urged using herd immunity to combat the pandemic.
Smith launched the Manning review in January at a cost of $2 million.

So we paid $2 million for Manning to tell the premier what she wanted to hear. I'd love to hear fomo our local UCP supporters on how that was money well spent. Enriching her old mentor with our tax dollars, what a ####ing system you idiots voted for.
And you can see right there what type of "expert" she listens to. But we already knew all this before the election, so thanks.

Aside from posters on CP, NDP candidates think they should change the name, and they're supporting the contention with polling.

I was also glad to see this in the article.

Some observers have pointed to Notley’s perceived weak performance in the televised leaders’ debate and the party’s decision to call for a corporate tax hike as crucial blows to the party’s electoral fortunes.

It's weird because when I brought that up in this thread, I'm sure I heard that it was because Albertans are braindead and voted UCP because they're stupid.

$100 says the leader's debate and the corporate tax hike are not really the prime reasons why people didn't vote NDP. It's because they're NDP and their color is orange, and that's disqualifying to many Albertans.

We talked about this last week (I think?). I don't know if you were in that conversation but several posters here thought the name change was irrelevant.
