Why even talk about Nylander. UFA or not, there is little to no chance Treliving trades him as he's their best player at this moment. He'll sign with another team this off-season but heading into the playoffs where they need him, he won't be dealt. End of story.

It’d suck to lose Ras. But if the Flames got offered a haul they couldn’t refuse I wouldn’t be mad

If Ras was ever put on the market he would get a haul. EVERY and I mean every single team would be in on it.

The Flames are only going to be looking for young players. They have Kadri, Huberdeau, Coleman, Backlund, Weegar as the 30+ crew (Markstrom maybe but I can see him getting dealt).

Get a good offer for absolutely any player, trade them.

Honestly Wolf is the only true untouchable with Zary, Pelletier, Coronato and a few other kids.

Tre will lose him to free agency for nothing.

Agree. Nobody should be untouchable except maybe Wolf. Outside of him, all can be had for the right price.

Ras refuses to shoot the puck in key positions. You’ll never win with him as the top D on a PP1 unit.

Nylander is literally the exact opposite of what the Flames need right now.

From the Leafs it’s unprotected 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or Knies, depending on what’s offered, or hang up. Offer salary retention or taking plugs back to make cap work.

This version of the Flames will never win anything. This version needs detonation, and it’s been obvious for an extremely long time it’s actually super concerning the team hasn’t done it yet. I’m losing faith in the organization writ large starting with Edwards and he is quickly entering complete idiot territory with completely stupid rules like “can’t say rebuild!” Just dumb. Enough.

It’s like driving a car and then self-imposing rules like “I’m not allowed to turn right on green!” And then getting frustrated why your commute sucks / takes longer. Simple, straightforward, strategic solution based on the rules of todays NHL and context of the Flames and inability to get people who want to be here without massively overpaying them. So then we get Huberdeau floating around for 8 years making over $80mm now that his life is set and he has no motivation.

Like this is super basic ####. Beyond mindblowing the Flames can’t figure it out or worse- refuse to publicly just admit it. Painful.

I’d deal Rasmus Andersson this or next year while value is high. I don’t want to resign him to 8x8 when the time comes.

Rasmus for Marco Kasper + Wallinder + 2nd if Yzerman is desperate….throw in Ruzicka if it closes the deal.

Can get way more than that.

It depends how quickly the team wants to try and compete. If they are looking for a quick retool Andersson won’t be traded but if they have a longer term view then he should be their best trade chip.

Quick retool won’t work. Not debatable.

I'm all for trying to fix Huberdeau, but not at the expense of trading one of the best assets the team has.

Fix Hubredeau to what end? Are we pretending that we are a fixed Hubredeau away from doing something worthwhile?

The team is a fixed Huberdeau away from being able to trade Huberdeau. Is that worthwhile enough for you?

If we are trading Rasmus Andersson to give Nylander a massive retirement level contract to then trade be able to maybe Hubredeau I think there is a lot to question whether that is worth it.

So to answer your question no I don't think trading Andersson for Nylander and giving him a crazy contract is worthwhile at all. Not even close to it.

I’m not sure how to fix Huberdeau. I don’t think bringing in Anthony Duclair fixes Huberdeau. I’d be for trading Lindholm + Hanifin (both extended) to Florida for Bennett + Lundell + 2 2nds if that guarantees MTL gets FLA’s pick during our tank.

Then sure, trade for or sign Duclair.

If Huberdeau - Bennett - Duclair doesn’t work - he’s officially permanently broken.

We don't have anything to give for a retool anyway. We're like a mom and pop store that has no money or stock, and just gave the last of the money to rent a ****hole for a decade.

Fine. But you were saying that it isn't worth fixing Huberdeau, period.

That wasn't my question, so you didn't answer it. I wasn't the one talking about trading Andersson, and I think it would be idiotic to acquire Nylander. But I do think there are steps that can be taken to turn Huberdeau into a tradable asset.
