Phones in general are becoming so incremental in their updates. Year after year I think to myself, "that's it???". This year hasn't changed that feeling at all. I'm at my upgrade year coming from the 12 mini, so I'll probably see what's offered black friday or boxing day but I don't think there's a huge difference between the 14 and 15. For a few years now these updates have not fully been worth their marketing. "Ohh, the dynamic island". You know when they start talking about that it's going to be mediocre.
For me, it’s USB Type-C, that’s the big motivator to switch. I haven’t yet heard that there’s any MFI lock-out chip sh-t with the iPhone 15 Pro implementation so it would be huge to simplify my cable collection since I have USB Type-C for virtually every other device now.
I’ve heard rumblings that non MFI cables will work, but not at full speeds.
Apple will always find a way…

I'll wait for a little bit to hear what bugs and oddities come out of the woodwork before jumping on the 15 Pro to replace my 11 Pro. Also, waiting means there will actually be cases and screen protectors available for the phone when I do pull the trigger.
I am on a 11 Pro that is coming to its end and just looking on the Apple Store they are offering 350 trade in, how much will that go down waiting a bit longer?
Define 'coming to its end'. My 11 Pro 256 GB is mint condition, except for the battery health not being 100%, and I could likely sell it for $450 on Kijiji or FB Marketplace. I don't know that I would do the trade-in myself.

Battery health is going, the Bluetooth connectivity is pretty much in shambles I can't walk a foot away from my phone with wireless headphones without static and it starting disconnect.
PLus I would rather not deal with Kijiji or FB Marketplace.
Last time I sold it on Kiiji was such a hassle she wanted to meet to see it and book an appointment with me at the Apple Store which was a total waste of almost 2 hours.

Any suggestions on places to replace a battery other than the Apple Store? I went to a couple places around 16th and Centre, and they quotes over $100 for a 12 mini replacement. If that's the price I'll just go to Apple for a bit more.

Considering you have to have the screen removed, I'd go to Apple. I've had screens removed/replaced on Samsung phones by third party retailers and it was substandard to say the least. That was years ago, so maybe they're better now.

Apple charges $119, and it's not a knockoff crap battery, and your phone will actually retain whatever level of waterproofing it had. London Drugs has certified Apple repair people that you can book via Apple directly as well. After they dropped their insane prices after battery-gate, I don't see any reason to go elsewhere.

I have a question about airtags. Hope this doesn't sound creepy!
My parents are showing signs of early dementia, and we would like a way to track them in case they get lost. They currently live on their own and can manage fine, but we are starting to see some signs that there could be an issue. Assuming full consent, we thought we could give them each an air tag. They only have an android phone (and don't seem to be able to use it, to be honest). We'd register the air tag on my daughter's iPhone who is the only apple device user in our house.
I understand that air tags have anti-stalking features: if the tag is away from the owner for an extended period, both the owner's device and the air tag will start to beep. I know this is an important feature, but wonder if there is a way to turn this off? Or is the only solution to give my parents an iphone, register the tag with it, and ensure they carry both wherever they go? I know I could easily clip an air tag on their keychain, but with the phone, they are prone to leaving it behind when they go out.

Thanks for any help!
You can disable the AirTag speaker, there are a few tutorials on how to do this.
I use AirTags to track my vehicles, my bike, and my wallet (in case it falls out of my back pocket or someone lifts it). All the speakers are disabled.

I have never experienced the AirTag beeping, either first hand or by my wife (who would hear it if I have gone away for a few days). Maybe I just don't go far enough often enough.
I lent a suitcase with an AirTag to a family member a while back (for a week or so), and they didn't report beeping either, though I did "share" it with them via the Find My app - maybe shared AirTags won't beep if they are near the owner OR the shared person?
Of course, that won't help as your parents are Android users. So perhaps the hardware hack is necessary.
Keep in mind that AirTags will only work if someone with an Apple device is nearby, passes by, etc. but it is certainly better than nothing. And there are a lot of apple devices out there to help form the "Find My" network. My father-in-law has an older iPhone and we are able to track him (with his consent), which provides peace of mind, so I totally understand.

Thanks for the quick responses. I don't mind doing the speaker hack, and it makes sense that people would want to track items that aren't on/near their person. We may go this route.
My wife had an AirTag on a 10-day trip to Ireland. She used it so I could see where she and our daughter were. It never beeped; I didn’t know it could do that.
Why not have your parents change to an iPhone? Probably easier to operate than an android phone and they will just have to carry those with them. Then you can just use the family sharing feature and find my (or whatever it is) to see where they are. Then you don't have to bother with airtags.
Or even easier put something like the life360 app on yours and their devices. Then nobody has to change phones. I know a lot of people use that for kids.

If the AirTag isn't away from the your wife (or the AirTag's 'home' location) for more than 24 hours, the AirTag won't beep. There's a lot of info on how AirTags protect against use for stalking and the audible beep is only one small way. The more important way is that both iPhone/iPad and Androids with AirGuard can tell if an unidentified AirTag is tagging along your travels with you.
For psyang's case, the fact his parents have an Android is probably a good thing as AirGuard is a separate app, and an updated iPhone 6s or later in the general vicinity is all that's needed for an AirTag to bounce its signal off of.
Similar to an AirTag, but better if you are an Android guy. I have SmartTags in my son's car, daughter's car, my bike, and my backback that I bring around with me. They're awesome.

They only work with Samsung phones not other android devices as I learned when I switched to a pixel. Good thing I had an old Samsung lying around so i can still see the smart tags at least on WiFi.

Are you serious? That's pretty weak. Classic Samsung/Android.

Apple is really good at this stuff.
Google has been working on their version of air tags that will work with any android phone (project Grogu) but they've been really silent about it of late. Air tags are really the best solution right now.
Tile only works within Bluetooth range (few hundred feet), not against a network of devices, which is what air tags does with apple devices and what Grogu hopes to do with android devices.
