Monahan very vocal about hockey "sucking" during his final days in Calgary, he was hurt so that likely plays into it but more confirmation that the dressing room has been toxic for a long time.

I miss Monahan, and that precious 1st (and more?) we're going to be giving away will be additional salt in the wound.
Crazy how this trade has really skyrocketed up to the top 3 of my 'Worst Flames Trades.' It created so many negative knock-on effects, in addition to being done at the worst time for this organization wrt where they are in the standings.
Nightmare fuel.

Going into this game 29 year old Monahan would be the Flames #1C with a cap hit of 2M on a one year deal and 33 year old Kadri has 6 more years at 7M
The draft pick the Habs get could 2024 if the Flames finish in the top 12 of the league. (not very likely)
BUT if Calgary does not have the first OA pick in 2025 the Habs get their pick .... Tank in 2024 NOT in 2025

This isn't true

Yeah it's unlikely Monahan would have re-signed...but really the point still stands.
Moving a 1st to get rid of 1 season of Monahan at $6.25M, to then give $7M x 7 to Kadri was always so short sighted.
Attaching a 1st to Monahan to move him was a mistake the second that trade was made. Especially with the ridiculous protection rules they put on that pick. (Although the most likely scenario is Flames pick is top 10, Panthers pick is not top 10, and the Panther 2025 pick will go to Montreal, it's still an unnecessary risk that a top 10 pick could be moved)

He played well with them last year but ultimately he's still a pass first guy and they're not the most gifted goal scorers.
So there are limits to which he can/will be fixed by playing with them IMO.

The way I read the deal is it’s all but certain the Habs get the 2025 Panthers pick. It’s highly unlikely they get either of the Flames’ own picks.

If we lose this game, Cheese is going to have to start posting these a day in advance.
Awesome job btw.

I don't consider Bennett a gifted goal scorer either TBF. He's a hammer, not a scalpel. Similar to Coleman in that way. Coleman's goals are all net crashers like Bennett's. I think Backlund is actually better at skating with the puck than Bennett as well.

I am aware of the trade
to suggest Monahan would be here now for the same price and putting up the same points is wrong
