Better plan. Get rid of the shoot out and just play 3-on-3 all the way through.

That’s a worse plan if they just extend the boring keep away sessions. In general thigh, I agree.
Half ice violation is the perfect rule for this.

3-on-3 is just a trash way to play professional hockey, so why not make it even more dumb by literally changing the play rules only for overtime. This league continues to be a circus.

Honestly, I'd rather they go back to having ties in the regular season after 5 min of 5 on 5.

3 on 3 was awesome when it first came out and coaches hadn't had a way to lock it down. Now that it's been "over-coached", it's no surprise it's a snoozefest. Heck, even the announcer's are all preaching how it's about possession justifying that loop around. Can't stand it anymore. OT is pretty much a snooze fest of circling back each and every time. Yes, even the Flames are guilty of it.

Would love to see some kind of half court rule like basketball has. Not sure about a shot clock though. That just means we'll see a million reviews if the puck was in before the shot clock was done.

And some sort of method where the play is mostly continuous and an infraction passing centre ice isn’t a whistle, stop in play, reset, go. It needs to be something like where the carrying team can’t play the puck until the now attacking team has touched the puck.

They love to layer rules on top of rules rather than addressing the issues directly. Undeniable clown show through and through

Another (and more fun) solution:

Add a second puck. First team that scores, wins.

I'm down for one sudden-death, 10-minute period, 5 on 5. If there is no winner, then go back to tie points. The shootout is the worst way to end a game, both in hockey and in soccer. Horrible.

I think they should do 5 mins of 2-on-2 if no winner after 5 mins of 3-on-3

Solution:

1st overtime 5v5 for 20 minutes- winner only gets point

2nd overtime 4v4 for 20 minutes winner only gets point

3rd overtime 3v3 10 minutes 2 points for winning team and 1 point for loser

4th overtime 2v2 5 minutes - same as 3rd round

5th overtime shootout same as 3rd

^ Thats like adding another whole game to the existing one. There would need to be full resurfacing for the ice in there. Way too long for OT (that isn't playoffs)

I think you've missed the point of 3on3 in the first place.

True. Maybe make it

4v4 winner only point

3v3 winner only point

Shootout loser gets a point

Because it's a team game, the shooting eliminates the team and they can't be held accountable. Therefore, point to loser team
