Frankly I don’t care. If they’re giving us the best asset we can use, back in return, I have zero problem with it. They may not be a bottom ten team when all is said and done but there’s a chance their first is out of the playoffs so that’s good for me. Who else is going to give you that?

I thnk Columbus could still go for Lindholm. As he ages, he will still be a good 2C, then 3C with the kids coming up. He, Laine, Werenski and Gaudreau are in their window for contention when Fantilli and Johnson are 23-24. They do need a goalie - I have no idea why Elvis got that contract.

I cant see Columbus being a lindy trade suitor anymore. They're too low in the standings to make a "win now" move.
I'm starting to get worried at the return for Lindholm. I feel like it may feel a little underwhelming. I think a late 1st and a decent but not top prospect is what we may get.
Teams that might be interested because they need a #2 C and are in the mix;
Bruins, Avs, wings and capitals.
Outside of the Wings, these teams don't have alot of interesting pieces.

I'm not too worried overall about any of our UFAs. Wasn't the trade deadline last season crazy with over payments or am I mistaken? I seem to recall an outcry here from some users about selling because the returns were so good.

I know Flames fans love to declare the Oilers as dead and buried but with a couple of solid adds and return to confidence could that team not find their way back into the race?
Helping our rivals should be at the bottom of the priority list. All things being equal the Flames help any team other than Edmonton/Toronto etc. if Edmonton has the clear best offer then do the deal but if it is not a tier above the next offer I don’t think they should do it.
Sweeney dealt Hamilton to Calgary over the Oilers despite Edmonton having the exact same offer with a pick 1 spot later in the first but both 2nds higher than what the Flames offered. They took the Calgary deal because Chiarelli left Boston in a crappy spot where they couldn’t sign their 22 year old top pairing RFA.

At this point the only thing the Flames should be concerned with is what's the best return they can get for their players regardless of who benefits on the other end of the deal.

Oilers (and Flames tbh) have dug a pretttttty big hole. They'd have to go on a tear for the rest of the year to make the post season. Possible, yes. But not likely.

Horvat got a good return. So did Tarasenko as a rental at 50% for the NYR. Boston gave up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd to rent Orlov (50%) and Hathaway (that worked out great, didn't it). Devils gave up a bunch to get Nino and others.
McCabe, Ekholm, Gavirokov/Korpisalo, Bertuzzi, Chychrun, Hronek all got first rounders.

6-7pts out with 68 games left is not a crazy hill to climb. I mean the Flames are absolutely screwed they do not have the talent to make up the ground. The Oilers do have the best player in the game and a solid 10 game run puts them back in the race with more than 55 games left. If Edmonton can add a top 4 Dman like Tanev who could transform their top 4 then it makes their climb easier. I want that team to implode so their offer needs to be substantially higher than the opposing team. If the offers are comparable I don’t see why the flames help the Oilers? If they are offering a 1st+Holloway for Tanev and the Leafs are offering 1st+McMann then you take the Oilers offer all day. If the offers are a 3rd and cap dump then no to the Oil

Lindholm is an enigma.
On the ice he typically plays a 200 ft game. Gives an honest effort.
But he also seems kinda high-maintenance. Like conditions, linemates, etc. have to be just right for him to produce. He was sulky at the end of last season and he looks sulky again this season.
Most baffling, he’s in a contract year for what will likely be his biggest contract, and he looks checked out. I don’t get it.

Sounds like majority agree CBJ is the best trade partner for Lindholm. Watch MTL jump in and sell Monahan to them instead and we have to settle for a different team to trade with.

Lindholm is on pace for 12 goals and 47 points right now.
Disaster of a contract season so far. Im sure he will pick it up a bit, but there's no way he is getting his rumored $9M+ ask.

Yeah it's weird. I don't know if he's checked out (seems like a dumb thing to do in a contract year) more than he's just struggling like some of the other forwards. He's definitely a guy that needs to be paired with an elite talent on the wing to get the most out of him as he's not one of those centers that elevates his linemates. Also he's always been a guy that doesn't wow you with flash but the way things are going certainly isn't ideal for him or the team as I just can't see how any team scouting him would be thinking that they need to lock him up for 7 years. Hopefully the Flames can go on a bit of a run and he starts to get better results.

Lindholm will get us a decent return to a contender at the deadline, his contract is so low that its easy to fit in even if we don't retain anything - he's not getting us a long term return because he is probably not resigned by the acquirer - maybe a 1st round pick in the 24-32 range and B level prospect. Who ever goes after him is likely doing so because they need center depth for cup run and he is a very responsible 2 way player. I still hold out hope for Johnny lobbying for him and they sign him long term because they need more center depth and maybe its a hail mary to get Johnny going but low probability I get it.
Hanifin may end up a team that wants to resign him which should lead to a better return because he also has a sweetheart cap hit at the deadline to increase the suitors - probably a late first again, maybe even a bubble team so say 18 to 32, A level prospect and/or an additional pick if resigned.

Sure but putting up with Oilers fans if it somehow help them win is still not a good thing.
It’s not like the Oilers is the only one out there that can give us a good deal
But yeah if it’s overwhelming then sure why not

It is when you make them overpay to help a desperate team that isn’t winning anything with or without whoever we send them.
Why should anyone else get the 14th pick in next years draft?

Forsure I think we can get value in that range, a late 1st x 2 2nds type thing.
I dont think we're getting a top prospect though as many are hoping for.
