Hanifin is worth a first round pick plus something additional.

The cost of moving Hubby today would be multiple first round picks.

One year of his contract is likely worth a first, much less 8 years.

Calgary needs to live with that contract for some time, and if they start rebuilding, they certainly have no reason to move it, nor should they give up the kind of required assets to do so.

Crouse would a devastating return for Hanifin. They can keep him.

I would take a prospect and 2nd Rd pick over taking him back.

We need to keep our cap options available we could help facilitate trades in a capped out league and taking back a bad contract with term would hinder that.

Teams like Toronto will get desperate and we could be a 3rd team to retain salary and get picks or take a expiring cap dump and get a 1st back.

Crouse doesn't help us in rebuilding.

Teams are unlikely to trade good prospects that are showing potential. You’re going to get better value from draft picks. Just human nature.

They probably still want to move him though to have more flexibility. I still think Holtz would welcome a trade, he is buried in their depth. Smith+Holtz for Zadorov+2024 3rd.

Lifelong wishful season ticket holder here. I’ll support this team through the good times and bad times. I’ve seen enough this year and I am finally ready to embrace the rebuild.

Untouchables:
- OUR Connor
- Pelts
- Popsicle
- Coronato Virus
- The Wolf of John Laurie Blvd
- Cal-Zary
- Mr. Andersson
- Mackenzie Weegar (sorry I can’t recall what his unanimous Nick name is. My friends and I have a nickname for him, but wanted to stick to ‘official’ Nick names only for the players)

Huberdeau and Kadri getting paid to be colossal disappointments. Their contributions to getting us to the cap floor will be the best thing they’ve done while wearing the flaming C.

Trade everyone else while you can. See you guys in 3 years. Godspeed.

So if the team is winning and there are 10000 seats sold, he's happy? Alright then.

I can pretty well assure you the only thing he cares about is filling seats.

That's why this team is doomed. Ownership wants people at games right now, so they'll do anything they can to stay competitive, even though they aren't. Fans know this isn't a contending team and don't want to go see a bad team without a bright future.

Ownership needs to realize that they'll have a better chance of selling hope than putting fireworks and an alarm clock on some roller skates and telling fans it's a time machine.

He cares about filling his pockets.

If he could make more money making the first round for the next 5 years versus winning the Cup but missing the play-offs the other 4 years he is taking the play-off revenue over the Cup everyday of the week.

His care about winning is only related to the money it puts in his pocket and that is why he pushes for the home play-off games he gets for making the first round so much.

Andersson and Weegar have been good and have remaining term, but if teams offer the right price, they should absolutely be available. Weegar is already older. If the Flames did a full rebuild, Weegar would be in his mid thirties by the end of said rebuild. Andersson is a tad younger but has less remaining term. I’d say he’s more untouchable than Weegar, but even he should be available for the right price. Though I do think one of the two has to stay around long term. Otherwise there may be no one on the back end.

There won’t ever be a shortage of vets. Huberdeau and Kadri will be around forever. Backlund and Coleman will be better role models for youth, they’ll stick around. Mangiapane would probably be around as well.

I don't think Anderson has been good at all. At what point this season has he been good?

Everything should be about rebuilding this thing to have a team that can push for the playoffs when the new rink opens in 26 or 27. I think the Flames are in a decent spot to turn things around quickly. I think they have an underrated farm system with several NHL players in the mix. If Wolf is a franchise goalie they have a top 3 position locked down. They do have a strong top pairing locked in with Andersson and Weegar. As they add younger D to the mix it is important they have these solid vets. They have 4 great rental pieces now and should be able to acquire a couple of extra 1sts and 2nds and by next summer will probably have a top 10 pool in the league.

Celebrini would be huge getting a western Canadian center to build the team around. Some good selling trades, being aggressive with trades and perhaps 1-2 more years of high picks they can be competitive when the new building opens. There doesn’t need to be a desire to pick 5-6 times in the top 10 but perhaps 1-3 times and make multiple other 1dt round selections during that time period.

You might get lucky and find a player that is buried down the depth chart on an organization that they might be able to part with. But unless you can get size and skill, probably best to take the pick and find it yourself. Problem being I don’t have a lot of faith in our scouting department. Have had a lot of misses.

Exactly the kind of deal we should be all over. I don’t think you need to add the pick tho.

Ya, that would be nice, I would add the pick though to get it done. Having Holtz and Coronato as future RW would be sweet.

With the benefit of hindsight, man, I wish we'd have got Sam Reinhart in the Chucky trade instead of you know who. 3 points today and 20 points in 14 games. 2 1/2 years younger too.

If the Flames can pull off some solid trades and load the cupboards with prospects due to this bad season, I imagine they’ll begin getting right back to it this off-season and Reinhart is a free agent.

…so, it could happen!

On this page, Reinhart said the Flames were his favorite team.
Get it done, Conroy.

But will they? I don't know that. Your average non-intense fan wants to go to a hockey game thinking they might see a win.

I'm not anti-rebuild, I'm just not sure 17,000 fans on average are willing to buy seasons tix for 5 years while it goes on.
