I am kind of curious, who are some Bennett like players out there that may be available who the Flames could target in a trade, besides Bennett obviously? Guys who make space by being a cannonball, but who can also finish with some success? Boone Jenner comes to mind, but I doubt he would be available being the BJ's captain.
Somehow they have to have room for Fantilli in their top 2 lines though. It's either Jenner or Roslovic to go.
Is Stephenson a cannonball? Copp?
EDIT: The centre most like Bennett who I have seen is Kadri. LOL.

I think he needs to simplify his game. He's not moving his feet, so when he doesn't have the puck he's not opening up options, when he does have the puck he's easy to defend because he's stationary. He needs to just focus on moving and simplifying things a bit.
He's got to stop waiting for the puck at the opposition blue line, move your dang feet.

That Florida guy who suggested pretty much the exact Huberdeau/Tkachuk trade that ended up happening, posted a video of his thoughts on Huberdeau's recent issues. I know it's just one fan's opinion, so only posted for entertainment purposes. Not trying to say this is the way it is, but I do agree with some of what he is saying.
Basically, he is saying that Huberdeau had some of the same issues in Florida, but would bounce back fairly quickly. He needs players to make him better and credits Bennett for a lot of his success during the 115 point season. He seems to ignore that Huberdeau has played with players in Calgary that have scored more in the NHL than Bennett and Duclair, but I do buy that he needs very specific types of players around him. He needs those buzz saws that can distract the defense to open him up. Anyway, worth a listen just for fun.
Yeah he was flabbegasted and became a minor celebrity when his prediction of the trade came through. He always has good insights into this and he's a real American who adopted hockey as a fan later on in life and appreciates it.
That is a good point about the type of players he needs. Huberdeau's highlights in Florida are always of making spectactular passes through traffic to someone who happens to be in the right position for the pass because they were making space in the defense with their hard nosed style.
In Calgary, his linemates are less aggressive and he's often isolated and has to make a last second pass through traffic and it gets picked off all the time. There's never a friendly player in the positions that seem to be where his hockey brain is anticipating them to be.

Pospisil is pretty aggressive with good speed but likely too early in his career to tell if he'll be a full-timer and a middle-sixer.
It’s not about funding the right players for Huberdeau - he’s produced with all kinds. In any case, your 10.5M superstar should be creating other stars around him - he’s capable of it. He has elite talent… something is just off with him. I suspect it’s mental/confidence issues … hopefully he can find his swagger again.
Ok. I watched a Huberdeau highlight reel. Some take aways.
- all were in flight heading towards the net.
- many had another player streaking to the post
- he looked faster
- he toe dragged in several
- he can deke
NONE of this is happening now.
What is off?
I am guessing its the way we enter the offensive zone.
Remember JG at first under Sutter. He looked terrible. Then they found a system where he could gain the zone.
Huberdeau scores and creates goals in transition not by long possessions .

1. Playing with confidence
2. Players finishing the play when he makes a big move
His team jumped into the rush all the time, his teammates found a way to drive the net from the sides and get open and trust he'll find them and he did.
Neither of those things have happened in Calgary, our system restricts east/west movement and thus forces a north/south dump and chase. Rarely do you see his linemates maneuver to get open for a shot, they usually drive the net or go behind it.
He needs his swagger back, first and foremost I think Pelletier would do wonders for his confidence but that's not happening for a long while.

There's not a single player on the Flames right now that plays the way that gave Huberdeau success. It's that driving, physical play to get open that allows Huberdeau to thread a pass that leads to a goal.
This team is full of players that passively skate up in a stock, passive offensive system. It ain't gonna work.
I respect there has been some really thoughtful posts and suggestions.
That said, IMO this is all on Huberdeau. Not the lines, the system, or the team mates.
At 10m it’s his job to create. Make things happen. Not the other way around where 20 others have to make things happen and he just gets the gravy. He’s not skating, he’s not good defensively, and he is not making plays. It’s not about ‘swagger’ it’s just work, in games. And he hasn’t done it.
