No, I was pretty clear I think 5x5 for Zadorov is fair. And I think a GM will offer him roughly that as a UFA. 6'6" defencemen who can skate, hit, block shots and even contribute offensively don't grow on trees.

I'd be extremely happy for Zadorov if he got 5x5, he deserves it. Heck, Gudbranson got 4x4. I just don't want Calgary to give him 5x5, I want them to sell high.

The team that gives him that deal a. is not competing for anything and b. will regret it.
Defenseman who can't play more than limited sheltered minutes without getting overwhelmed do grow on trees. And Zadorov can have all the physical abilities in the world but if it only affective against bottom 6 players that is a problem in the NHL.

With no cap dump, I could see Tanev for a second and a B prospect. I just think someone will pay a late first for him to include a cap dump that won’t affect our season one bit at the trade deadline.

No, it doesn't. All it does is remove one team from the buying side of the equation - Calgary - and it seems like they've already made that decision. Teams know that he's available regardless of whether this came out. Zad is motivated to play well until he gets his next contract no matter what team he is on.

I think some players and posters are going to be getting a reality check july 1
Zadorov, Toffoli, Lindholm, Hanifin won't be getting anywhere near the term and $$ they were demanding from the Flames
certainly not from "contending teams" with no cap space
ironically the Flames will be one of the only teams who have space...it can go to young players who actually want to be here or be used to acquire them

But Toffoli is not Zadorov so not sure the relevance. I am fine with all these guys getting big money as long as it is not in Calgary. Teams don’t win and become dominant teams with guys in their 30’s. They also do not become dominant teams signing bottom pair dman to long term contracts.
