Because anything Smith does, Yoho loves. She could slash his tires and jack his taxes up to 99% and he'd still simp for the UCP and call them gods.

Liberal mayor's who call out having costs downloaded onto them. And Dani doesn't like big urban areas because they largely reject her.
It's pettiness and an attempted abuse of power.

Smith is so insecure that when the progressive bastions of the province (the two main cities) deal directly with the federal government, she throws a temper tantrum and doesn't like being cut out of the equation. I hope they continue to deal directly with the feds so Smith continues to throw a hissy fit and the UCP panics knowing they can't do ####.

That isn't true tho is it? The municipal government are formed under the purview of the provincial government right? Smith could dissolve the municipal govt if she wants no?
It's like that federal MP who said that Western provinces need to elect more Liberal MPs in order for the Liberals to listen to them. What Smith is doing is carrying out the threat "you largely didn't vote for me, so be prepared to be ruined". Same coin.

Well that's a terrific way to lose urban votes. Taking her rage out on the cities wouldn't be good for her for 2027.

It's revenge politics. Governing with threats rather than collaboration.

Why have two levels of government dealing with each other when you can have three? More bureaucracy is better democracy, as the saying goes. Ensuring more government middle-managing is how you increase efficiency with lower costs.
Is there a city with a better record of on-time, on-budget projects than Montreal? You think that happens without the provincial government ensuring it works its way into the process? Lean and mean, that's Quebec's motto when it comes to infrastructure projects, the perfect place to emulate.

In theory you ensure the province is maximizing their negotiating power through enforced compliance by the municipalities .

Ah, so it's one of those, I want to win so bad I'm willing to sacrifice my own citizens in order to do so kinda deal. She's like Machiavelli if he microwaved his own head for 15 seconds.

Sucks when Premiers play the same politics as Prime ministers.
Smith was very clear the days of Alberta begging cap in hand are over.

When were the days we were begging cap in hand?
She was clear that something that was never happening in in the first place is now over?
