However, its one of those casualties of entering a rebuilding situation. This team needs to ship out players for prospects and picks. Let young guys who care a shot and just get rid of the mediocrity.

Honestly, it can’t get any worse. Dodging the Hanifin and Lindholm extensions saved our asses.

Sureloss has it right I bet. Asked for a trade now so he can get more icetime to position himself for a better deal next year. Of course Flames could easily give him that icetime until the trade deadline if they move a different D.
Thing is, I don’t believe Conroy is ready to throw in the towel on a season just yet so a Zadorov trade might bring back some NHL defense, and not just a draft pick.
As far as tanking his trade value, I don’t agree. The most favorable terms you can ever get as a buyer is on an off market transaction. Let everyone know that he is available and he won’t be dealt until your price is met.

I actually think he’s overrated on CP. People have been clamouring for him to be re-signed long term for a while now and it would’ve been a huge mistake. For once the flames made the right call to not lock him up.
He’s a very good 3rd pairing guy. Maybe fills in on the 2nd pairing in a pinch. But he gets exposed playing against the opposition’s top players.
Love his hits, love his personality but it’s a cutthroat business and his stock will never be higher. He is not a top 4 guy. He’s got too many defensive holes in his game. Instead of locking him up to a big contract he’ll never live up to, it’s much better to get something for him while we can.

It’s too bad if this is true. I have really liked what Zadorov has brought to this team and how he has improved his game since he got here.
Have to wonder if there are a few things affecting the timing. For one thing, it sounds like he was put on the back burner as far as the negotiations priority. Add in the fact that he was calling out selfish plays of his teammates earlier this season. And, after a game like tonight, you could argue Zadorov was the best defenceman in the game.
He might have had enough being the last priority for re-signing despite playing better than Hanifin and Tanev.
Hopefully Conroy has the patience to get maximum value for him.

It doesn't affect is value at all actually. Conroy can still play off GM's against eachother, anybody with a lowball offer he can tell them he has better offers on the table.

Z is a guy you invest in, the only heart on the team and the balls to call it like it is.
If the Flames let this guy walk, they may as well pack their #### up because there's nobody left to hold anyone accountable.
Typical Flames move, what a joke.

Zadorov is a big player that makes us better. Losing him will be a big loss to the team, and teams won't think twice about entering our zone with him not patrolling the Blue line.

Exactly. Zad probably had more hits than the rest of our D combined. Like, what's left? One of the smallest, slowest and friendliest d-corps in the league.

Sure, and I'm sorry. The insider stuff in the past 6 months on CP maybe gets to me a little compared to the old days of verified stuff only, and I apologize for that. Just seems like a perfect amalgamation of everything out there on Zadorov (like 4 or 5 different points about the player and his feelings) and like 10 minutes after the news breaks, while your driving?
Again, sorry, just frustration on my part on what insider info is these days on CP. I live for rastamastas stuff, it's late to the party and it's 100% gold.
EDIT: Again, apologies.

Even if it turns out to be true, as of right now that's conjecture based on some heavy projecting.

He was one guy I was hoping to keep as he brought the right attitude. Character individual that hates when guys don’t give 100%. Those are the kind of role models that the kids from the farm need. Guess it all comes down to contract demands and what he wants but ideally he would be a guy that you like to have for some veteran leadership. Maybe he priced himself out, but there are plenty of other players I wanted gone before big Z.

I have PTSD from watching Z make mistake after mistake out there. I like the guy but treat this with urgency if possible. Leave him in Toronto and count yourself lucky that he helped you do it.

Lol the typical Flames move would be to overpay him. People are way too attached to a 4/5 dman. Let the sell off begin

Guy wants to earn a big contract while he can but feels like the opportunity isn't there to do so. It'd be a shame because he seems a really good personality, ignoring his on ice GAF even.

Would be ballsy not to bring back a Gudbranson level dman back in a trade. Defense is not the farm’s strength, and leaning into a lot of DeSimone and Gilbert could be an utter disaster.
