Right, but that was the gist of my post. Their higher priorities have been to chase players that don't want to be here vs even a single contract discussion with a fan-favourite who does want to be here.

He's a Ufa who was thought of being in the top 4 and has settled into the #5 role which is perfect for him.

He obviously wants to bring his stock up to sign a long term deal and we won't offer it and his value will decrease with low minutes.

If your team is in the basement and a player with no term requests a trade you're not likely to be able to "sell high"... It's automatically a distressed asset. You're almost better off just waiting until the market becomes competitive later in the season as teams gear up for the playoffs.

Who's gonna stick up for our Zarys and Pelletiers etc now? Zad is a rare breed in that he's big, skilled and can skate. 6"6' 230lbs mean-as-hell top-4 defencemen don't just fall from the sky.

I love Zadorov, my favourite player on the team.

However, its one of those casualties of entering a rebuilding situation. This team needs to ship out players for prospects and picks. Let young guys who care a shot and just get rid of the mediocrity.

Locker room issues are inevitable once one player makes a public request to go somewhere else. Divisions grow, discontent arises. Other players get ideas.
