Have to think even if the flames were close on any trades right now, they would not make any trades today… better to let the oilers pain hold the headlines for as long as possible.

This deal works out cap wise
To Flames: Bouchard and McLeod + 2nd
To Oilers: Markstrom
Kenny gets the goalie he went hard after but lost out to Calgary. Flames add some younger pieces with some upside and get a pick while running with the young goalie tandem. Bouchard helps fill a spot with the Flames moving out their 3 pending UFA’s. McLeod can be the 4C and bump up to 3 when Lindholm is dealt
Markstrom probably blocks this with his NMC

Taking a while to get to 5000

^^ Markstrom was open to going to Edmonton, Flames paid more. I doubt he blocks it actually.
That said, if you're helping the Oilers the conversation starts with their unprotected 1st. Non-negotiable in my opinion.

McLeod is probably a 4th line center at best on this team, he definitely is behind Kadri and Backlund even if they trade Lindholm maybe he scrapes in as a poor 3rd line center somehow ahead of Ruzicka who I think is better. But he could be a 5C on this team. Guys on the current roster who are better that play center would include - Lindholm, Kadri, Backlund, Ruzicka, Dube. Other forwards that I would rather give icetime to than him would include: Zary, Sharangovich, Coleman, Mangiapane, Huberdeau. For me there are at least 9, maybe 10 forwards that I would rather see on the ice than McLeod and bringing him in leaves questions about what you do with young gus that appear to have legit talent like Popisil, Coronato. I would have almost no interest in him. Would much rather have Foegele, you could at least potentially trade him at the deadline.
Bouchard looks like a modern day Marc Andre Bergevin, he is awful defensively. Flames definitely need a 1st in any deal, that is the bare minimum.

We need to rescue Dylan Holloway- they've almost got him ruined completely.

Some of this discussion is nuts. There's no way they acquire Markstrom without demanding we take back Campbell, who went for free on waivers. I don't like the Oilers, but there's other options out there in goaltending for them and better deals out there for us too.

Oilers could use help on D too, it doesn't just end at their goaltending. I'm sure they would love get their greasy paws on Tanev or Hanifin if they could.

I would much prefer to get picks if we are helping the Oilers, even have Campbell as the player if it means a boatload of picks. The Oilers ruin almost every single player. Below is the list of players who the Oilers have drafted who have ended up playing more than 50 games in the NHL since 2013 (not including McDavid and Draisaitl)
Holloway
Broberg
Bouchard
McLeod
Yamamoto
Skinner
Poolparty
Caleb Jones
Ethan Bear
John Marino
William Lageson
Darnell Nurse
Anton Slepshev
The only one who has developed at all is Marino and that is because he refused to sign there. Taking a prospect or young player from the Oilers is like lighting your money on fire. They picked in the first 3 rounds 24 times in that period, that list includes 4th overall, 8th overall and 14th overall picks who look like busts.
The 4th best player outside the two studs that they developed in that period of time is Kailer Yamamoto for christ sake.

I agree, but I really believe there's a player there in Holloway. I think he would love to come back home to Calgary, too. He's too good a player to be where he is in his development.

They weren't dead last in the league sending goalies to the minors at the time

Yeah, because things are so much better...here?
Sharks are 32nd
Oilers are 31st
Flames are 30th
If I were to bank on one team to bounce back (especially if they're making trades to improve), I'd bank on Edmonton.

One would hope the 2024 Stanley Cup Champions could eventually bounceback.

What significant trade involving Edmonton and a goalie could Elliott be talking about? It was supposed to happen Wednesday but went quiet. Was this Binnington?

Binnington had smoke around him. Probably got squashed by a NTC whoever it was

I'd trade a D to Edmonton. I'd even take 3mil back in the deal.
But any deal starts with a 1st rd pick.

Which is why a Calgary Edmonton trade will never happen. I’m only trading with them if I can absolutely rip them off.
I’m not throwing that team a lifeline. I’m throwing that drowning team an anchor if I can.
