Surging Flames aim to add to Leafs' misfortunes

"You can see the confidence growing in guys and in the group and the way we're playing," said Blake Coleman, who scored the go-ahead goal for Calgary in the third period Tuesday. "Confidence is a big thing in this league, and it makes a big difference, and when you start to get that collective confidence, that's when teams get dangerous."

Why Brad Treliving’s legacy with the Calgary Flames is complicated

On Friday night, the Calgary Flames make their one and only appearance of the season in the centre of the hockey universe, Toronto, where they face the Maple Leafs. It’s their first trip to Toronto since the departure of longtime Flames general manager Brad Treliving, who became the GM of the Leafs at the end of May.
Treliving helmed the Flames organization for nine years and, in good ways and bad, is responsible for what the club has become. His legacy with the Flames is complicated.

When Flames face Maple Leafs, Treliving’s legacy will be seen on both sides of ice

Brad Treliving isn’t interested in talking publicly about his former club, or the Friday night Calgary Flames matchup in Toronto that has his fingerprints all over it.

Although as savvy with soundbites as anyone in the National Hockey League, the personable executive would rather lay low despite the obvious spotlight he’ll be under this week.

It’s Time for the Toronto Maple Leafs to Clean House and Fire Everyone

It’s Time for the Toronto Maple Leafs to Clean House and Fire Everyone
Which is ironic, considering that in the NHL, you are allowed to be extremely bad at your job, as long as you do it in a way indistinguishable from everyone else.

For instance, Ken Holland has been the worst GM in the NHL for at least a decade, but nobody cares.

Peter Chiarelli will get an interview for every GM job that comes up from here to eternity, and just when you think you’ve seen the last of Mike Babcock, he’ll pop up again like a character killed five times already on your favorite soap opera.

Zizing ‘Em Up: Treliving faces Flames for 1st time with Maple Leafs

When Brad Treliving sees the Calgary Flames skate onto the ice at Scotiabank Arena for the annual Hockey Hall of Fame game against the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday, he won’t be surprised if he’s flooded with memories.

On April 17, Treliving and the Flames mutually agreed to part ways, ending his nine-year stint as Calgary general manager. On May 31 he was named GM of the Maple Leafs.

This will mark the first time his new team faces his former team since he changed jobs.

To date he hasn’t thought about it much, but admits he probably will as it gets closer.

About the city where his kids were raised. About the people and relationships he forged with the Flames.

And about Chris Snow. Almost always about Chris Snow.

Leafs are a little discombobulated these days, and are ripe for the picking. Should the Flames play the same way they did the last few games, I suspect they will walk out with a convincing win.

It's really confusing because on paper the Leafs have a great team, yet cannot seem to have any consistent success. You have to wonder if there's a chemistry or team buy-in issue. I don't see a major shake up during the season because that's just not Treliving's M.O., but you can bet on him acquiring an aging vet rental on a deadline deal this year. Book it.

Quick Q all. I seem to be having issues here or something has changed on the board itself. Does everyone see a full GDT typical to what I normally post, or do you see two sets of game action photos and no banners?

Are they really a great team? Looks like the core 4 and a mediocre supporting cast. The defense group is nothing special and I would consider their goaltender pairing bottom half of the league. They will make the playoffs and all but with that defense and goaltending I don't see them making a lot of noise.

I see two sets of everything. When I get to that Zadorov tweet, it starts over with the top pictures again and then everything repeats.

Please win. Of all the games during the year it's the ones against the Laffs I get the most joy/grief from.

And if anyone bumps into Conroy today, please remind him of the Gilmour & Phaneuf trades and to not let history repeat itself. Any trade talk with the leafs has to include Knies to CGY.

If Zadorov wants to be the new Mike Stone, awesome. If he wants full market price to do it, then probably not.

I'm all for Zadarov staying.

Guy plays with an edge, cares about the team, seems like he is a great guy in the locker room and wants to win.

He is only still relatively young at 28.

The Flames are a very soft team as is. Without Zadorov, they would be completely spineless, and softer than baby poop.
