Not just that series, 4 goals against on 32 shots this year & was outplayed both games by Skinner last year.

Who's overstating anything by actually quoting stats that support he's had a harder shot allotment in front of him this year.
More info is good!
I agree with you his counting numbers are flat year over year, but the team is giving up more by basically 20%, making that hard to do.

A shame it's not his first NHL game.
He'd be almost certain to score a goal.

What.. That's certainly not true.
Oettinger was the only reason that series went more than five games.

Sometimes a guy is so good that he's earned the right to not have to wait as long as your 'ordinary' goalie prospects.
Maybe I'm just a fan of merit/meritocracy.
Wolf has earned seeing the next level more than Vladar has earned staying ahead of him occupying that spot.
I think if you let it drag out too long it sends the wrong message.
If a prospect is literally the best you can be at his respective position wherever he's played, hasn't he earned a shorter route to the big show? There should be exceptions made for "exceptional" cases IMO.
|
It's only been a month.
I don't blame Conroy for just not giving Vladar away whether that's trade or putting him on waivers. A rookie GM doesn't want to make himself look easy either.
The Toffoli trade doesn't look good right now but he atleast saw something in Sharangovich that he liked.

You have been screaming for him to be called up. He HAS been called up. Be happy about it.
|
For the record, my posts today started with a very different question which really was never answered at all. What gives Vladar trade value? It came up in conversation all summer that the team would need to wait for a trade to move Vladar before Wolf could have a spot.
And so far, the only response I've got was that in 19-20 he had 25 good games in the AHL. Consider me underwhelmed by that response.
Regarding Wolf not playing more, the responses I've got are "the AHL team is in Calgary so its easy to call him up", "he's waiver exempt so its convenient", "goalie XYZ didn't play in the NHL until he was 42 years old", and probably a few others. While sure those are answers, they don't seem like very good ones. Just because you logistically can send someone down doesn't mean you should.
(also sorry for the multiple posts everyone. by the time I type one up, someone else is quoting me!)

I didn't say he's never had any good numbers. And if you want to win some internet points I am happy to apologize and concede the point. I award you 17 internet argument points. Well played sir.

You said he never had good numbers anywhere and were wrong but have typed 3 essays to defend it for some reason.
Giving Vladar away now so Wolf can play in the NHL would be ridiculously short sighted...especially since he can still get into games with all 3 on the roster

How much Vladar even be worth, anyways?
History says he probably just continues looking ordinary with some ups and downs between now and the deadline. Does he alter his value much in that time? Doubtful. So you're banking on demand for a decidedly mid backup sky rocketing before the deadline to justify hanging on to this guy.
You might as well get it over with if Markstrom is unmovable and ship him out because one way or another Wolf will eventually have that spot on the roster.

Whether he outplayed Oettinger or not doesn’t take away from the fact that he played well enough to give the Flames the win even against a red hot goalie.

And if Wolf struggles in the NHL which would be totally normal for his age?
he sits on an NHL bench vs. starting goalie in the AHL
Some of you just assume he is going to step in and be lights out and take over the starter role for the next 15 years...guy is 22

I've said multiple times you misunderstood what I said as some sort of definitive and declarative statement. I have clarified and conceded to your incorrect interpretation yet you are still stuck on it.
And sorry I use too many words for your tiny brain to understand.

Oh he'll have his growing pains, without question.
But for a goalie with his accolades, you ride or die with your youth. Can't stand on the fence forever because if he is actually great long term and you don't show that belief in him, he will remember that down the road. A goalie of Vladar's caliber is replaceable. They are out there.
Isn't that the theme of this year anyways..a youth movement? So far it's panned out pretty nicely for them.

If Wolf plays this weekend he is going up against some high end offensive talent...this isn't the game 81 SJ Sharks
temper expectations

tell the Oilers
again 22 year old goalie...Spencer Knight is also in the AHL
22 is VERY young for a goalie, he should play most of the year in the AHL. Devon Levi is the only younger goalie in the league right now and that is going...okay at best

Yeah, what I think should be said is that he played almost as well as Oettinger. The Flames outplayed Dallas so he didn't have to be as good but he was still good.
If Markstrom doesn't play as well as he did then Dallas most likely ends up winning the series because of Oettinger.

If in an alternate universe 22 year old McDavid had to take an ordinary development path to the league and the Oilers were hesitant to promote him despite him owning the AHL because they only saw him playing top 6 C and weren't sure they wanted to depart with whichever okay but not great nhlers they would have in those spots and decided to hold out to see if there was more value either in the player or on the trade market, they would look pretty stupid right?
To a lesser degree the Flames are more or less doing this in goal with Wolf right now.
#### or get off the pot.

Couple of games backing up, big pay check, practice with the NHLers. Will be a good stint for Wolf. Doubt he gets any minutes unless there is another injury or a disastrous performance.

I agree with you that markstrom was equal to Oettinger, or almost. Thing is, a lot of people here declare the losing goalie to be "second best goalie on the ice" no matter how well each play, so your initial comment was along those lines (you didn't mean it that way).

^^ Don't need to bring him up just to watch him work the gate or sit upstairs. Dansk could have provided that "protection" especially with the Wranglers schedule coming up.
Wolf will play a game. Guaranteed.
