Incidentally, I lived next to a regional or divisional manager for 7-Eleven (or something) and he said Claresholm is (was?) the busiest in Canada. It was a regular stop when I went to ULeth.

I used to stop at that 7-11 everytime I went through Claresholm. Every time. 3-4 times a week at one point. My kids did too until it moved. They are the ones that complain that the new one is not the same.

Videogame fetch quest is actually a good way to put it. After you sign up and start up the app, you get the notification on your app about which restaurant/store to pick up the order. It will tell you your total compensation and the kms distance. You are free to reject what you don't like if it's too cheap or too far. Head to the restaurant, give the order name/number, pick up the bag and go. The policy for DD is that all bags have to be sealed, so you have no part in checking if the order is filled correctly and has all items. Makes it easier for the driver, but sucks I guess for the customer to not have that extra check. Deliver to customer (99% of the time it's to leave at the door and take a photo). Check out. Job done.
That is the simplified version. Sometimes you are waiting at the restaurant for it to complete. Sometimes the order is in an apartment so you have to get buzzed in and find the unit. Sometimes the pick is from a supermarket so you have to sit and wait in the parking lot pickup zone and someone brings it to you. So my post earlier about not tipping resulting in slower delivery being BS, is true. Tip 0, 5, 10, whatever. It means SFA if the restaurant or supermarket is slow bringing you the order.
As for pay, some deliveries pay more obviously. You see what your total compensation will be. For me it's $1=1km the minimum. Sometimes you get really good ones. I once bought a guy a lighter from 7/11 (which came sealed in a bag), drove 2km and got $21 for it. Those are sweet ones. Seems that when you first sign up you get priority order that pay well to rope you into staying with the company. My first few weeks I was getting about $400/week as a noob. Once it settles, you get between $17- $20/h. Then you have to take into account gas, wear and tear on your car, time spent waiting in a parking lot (it's not constant orders unless it's busy), time spent waiting at a slow restaurant.
My wife and I used to do it together. She navigates and uses the app so I don't have to while driving, and I run in and out of places. We stick close to 130ave so it's only a few kms each way. This is our vacation money and we're already 2/3 through saving for a beach trip from doing this the past year. It's interesting for sure. I've gotten to see a few places I never would have thought to eat before. It's a side gig to supplement your income more than anything. Don't think about quitting your day job unless you're one of those guys who has 3 phones going with multiple delivery apps and can keep it all organized.

I'd be curious to know the numbers, but as a resident member of the covid cautious crowd we do lots of meals via the delivery apps, as we are still not doing indoor dining. However we try to limit the distance from us to ensure the food arrives as close to intended as possible.
Haven't really had any complaints at all, but our proximity to lots of restaurant options spoils us in this regard.

So I signed up for Walmart+ delivery.
This is a $7/month delivery service that delivers your groceries. I would equate it to Amazon Prime.
HOWEVER, when I got to check out, it asks for a voluntary driver tip.
What are the groups thoughts on this? Do you tip your Amazon driver on every order? What is the purpose of the $7/month?
I've ended up guilt-tipping between $5-$10 on each of my orders based on size, but I irks me. Anyone else doing Walmart+ delivery? Thoughts?

I heard on the radio that some grocery stores in the Lower Mainland here now have tip options at the self-checkouts. This is really getting out of hand.

Thats you paying them extra to do their work for them, instead of just you doing their work for free.

If the driver is also the person who picks your groceries, I think I'd tip.

They're not. Walmart workers pick the orders. The drivers just deliver them.
If this was an Uber or Skip service, I would get the tip option, but this is a Walmart+ service that has a monthly fee.

How is this different from Amazon, Fedex, UPS, etc.
I mean yeah, I could go to a fulfillment centre and pick up my packages too. i still don't tip those guys every time I get a package?
I think this is another weird tip double standard that society can't seem to figure out. Some people get tipped for the same things other do as part of their regular job and you can't say anything about it.

I wouldn't tip. That's like tipping the Canada Post guy for delivering your mail.

Who shows up though? A walmart corporate van or just a uber driver? Lots of companies use uber to deliver their goods for them.

We've done a bunch of Superstore deliveries, and I believe they are using Door Dash drivers for them. Never had any sort of branded vehicle show up to deliver the order.

That's on Walmart to compensate the Uber driver then, not me. It's different if I've ordered it through Uber and not through Walmart.
