Probably not. He would be crazy to risk that kind of money.
I could see his agent asking permission to try and see if there is a possible trade out there. I doubt there is, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Yeah I'm not stoked on it either just stating the unfortunate facts it seems. I hoped he would step in and be great.

Those two are the type of players that the majority of the fan base would love and a very vocal minority on this board would hate.
I'm all for it.

That would leave the flames with nothing for Huberdeau, as you cant trade a terminated contract. Total waste of an assett.

My guess if we trade with MTL there would be a couple bad contracts coming the other way to offset the cap it.
Something like.
Huderdeau 2.2M retained for Josh Anderson, Joel Armia and the Flames 2025 first

Huberdeau requesting a trade is all well and good if thats the road he wants to go down, but I'd ask Walsh just how the Flames are supposed to accomplish this given the deal he (Walsh) worked out on his client's behalf? The signing bonus structure pretty much kills it.

I hope it was more of a Principal - Student Parent meeting. Huberdeau apologizing his behavior.
The team has nothing to do with Huberdeau's performance at this point. When Zary can walk out of the AHL and perform better in every way, kind of ridiculous.
So instead of using the benching as lighting a fire under your ass, you call your agent to set a meeting with the boss.
Agent can go find a trade with no assets or money retained.
Other than that, agree to cancel the contract.

Huberdeau's contract is a liability, not an asset.

$10.5M of cap space is a helluva an asset these days.

There is no chance the Flames wouldn't have to retain and take a bad contract in return.
The cap would wind up being a wash, and the Flames would take picks to off set the asset exchange.

Maybe the meeting is the discussion around the lifting of any NMC clauses, if there are any. That would be a logical discussion item to get out of the way first.

especially this year, that type of cap space this year would allow you to broker some deadline deals for other teams and perhaps collect a few picks/prospects

I think the trade with Edmonton is a Dman. Not enough to tip the scales, however still requiring their 1st, even if top 5 protected. They likely could offer the highest overall first rounder imo. More than a Toronto, Boston or other contender. Strike while the iron is hot.
I also don’t see why Columbus wouldn’t entertain a Jonny swap. They aren’t getting out from that contract either, granted shorter and slightly cheaper. A small 1mil retention by the flames and I think it could work out for both teams.
Having the agent look for a deal, likely shows less bias and believe ability that Hubby is just underperforming because of the system/situation. Calgary would have a harder time selling that imo. I think this is a good news item to rectify this ####ty situation.

Trade him to Washington.
Huberdeau for Mantha and Wilson. Cap evens out and Mantha is dead weight for them.
Gets Ovi a passer to get the record which is all they are trying to do these next couple seasons.

Walsh's client list isn't too big, mostly older cheaper vets and rookies then the elephant of Huberdeau's contract. https://puckpedia.com/agent/allan-walsh
He does seem to be pretty outspoken and active as an agent however, in calling the principal when his kids aren't happy at school. I wonder if Huberdeau and him had a long call last night about his future.
Conroy has to deal with Huby, potentially looking for trade partners for Lindholm and Hanafin, and trying to keep the team competitive as well. Tre did him no favors.

Tom Wilson until age 37? I think I'd rather keep Huberdeau.

I like this trade. Give Ovi someone to get him to the Gretzky record is a motivator even if the Caps are not going to be competitive.
Phillips back too
Tom Wilson contract until age 37 is not good though but both teams get handcuffed with long contracts.
