Some pretty good discussion on Barn Burner today, with Jamie McLennan.
One thing they mentioned was Huberdeau's body language. Obviously he was overcome with negative thoughts, but it was still a bad look. He should be cheering on the team and encouraging them. That kind of negative cloud isn't good for the rest of the guys.
Jamie McLennan had a good point about how teams can pull a goalie who is off their game and it usually isn't a big deal, but if you pull a skater, it turns into a thing. They were speculating that it might start to become more normal in the future.

Of course everyone is going to pencil in on the one clip of Huberdeau hunched over. There was another that no one mentioned, when Coleman came back to the bench after scoring on his shift and Huberdeau was standing up, congratulating him and Coleman pats him on the shoulder. He wasn't pouting or sad the entire 3rd period, he showed a moment of frustration and that's all anyones going to talk about is that moment

To be fair he was cheering and fist bumping goals, blocked shots, ect.
the head down stuff was mostly during the commercial break and coming out of it. SN had the cameras on him for the story obviously. If you were at the game though he was talking to the guys on the bench and staying engaged.
Multiple players even mentioned this in the post game that he was pumping everybody up

But very unlikely he does not have a few seasons better than he has showed the flames so far.

I think he needs to see a different one. Because his issue is between his ears, and the one he used over the summer doesn't appear to be working.
Another observation, just go back to having fun. He was doing that in pre-season. Stop trying to put so much pressure on himself to "be the guy". Just go back to what made hockey fun for him, and let it come. If that means telling Huska to give him a bit of rope to just be free, so be it. He's thinking way too much out there. He just needs to trust that he can react, and if it doesn't go his way, to shrug it off.

The concerning thing about Huberdeau is he’s supposed to be our best player. I can’t remember a single game where he has been our best player. And there have been a few where he has been our worst. Hell, I think you’d be hard pressed to find a period where he has been our best player… it’s just strange. He seems like a good guy, seems like he cares… I don’t know how you can explain the insane drop-off in play.

Are you supporting the NHL again?
Anyway it obviously affected him a lot, no sense pretending otherwise. He said so himself and it is going to be a storyline until he is able to contribute more.

I wonder how much Huberdeau believes himself at this point when he says he's got it in him since he's been saying the exact same line for 90+ games as a Flame

Make no mistake he was agonizing over it all period and his body language and comments show it. That doesn’t an anyway mean he was going to be a bad teammate. Of course he is going to show his support in those situations like when they scored and won just like his teammates would have his back postgame. You can still be upset and show it while still being a good teammate.

A bit of a hint of friction in that quote too, nothing major but friction none the less.

But thats not what these guys want right, they are looking for the quotes that make him a bad teammate listen to a podcast that brings on guests to crap on him and run with that narrative.

I suggest Niles Crane, he had some great success with a basketball player IIRC.

He clearly doesn't.
If he did his confidence wouldn't be an issue. Florida trading him broke his confidence, seeing them go on a run and praising Tkachuk as the saviour (in both Florida and Calgary) has only made it worse, and he absolutely doesn't believe in himself anymore.

Why would the media ignore that moment when emotions clearly took over? It's part of the drama of sport. He can say one thing in a media scrum but his body language and stuff like the Walsh tweets make me wonder how much he believes his own words about accountability.

If the Sharks keep sliding - win coming this Thursday notwithstanding - and Mike Grier continues to voice displeasure with what he’s seeing, can Conroy talk his buddy into a Hertl-Huberdeau based shakeup swap?
Plays heavier, six months younger, two fewer years, $2.3 million cheaper, fairly similar buyout structure, lower ceiling (debatable), has played all three forward positions during his NHL career.
C’mon, Craig!

Why would the Sharks ever want to do that?
