I don’t think they are a realistic target but crazier things have happened than a rebuilding team acquiring a mid 20’s Dman.

Key difference between Provorov and Hanifin, although drafted in the same draft year, one has term (one more year then Hanifin) on his contract. That’s the only reason. And Columbus got some major retention from LA to pawn Petersen to Philly.

Strong suitors for Hanifin should be:
Buffalo, Arizona, Detroit. Those teams are trying to get better and have extra assets/prospects to make it happen.
As for Lindholm my pipe dream is Seattle giving up Wright straight up but it’s not happening. Would like a top end center prospect in the pipeline but those are hard to come by.

I don't think Shane Wright is going to be a star, he was over hyped in his draft year and the extra motivation for being stiffed by MTL appears to have done very little for his progression.
Nolan Patrick 2.0 - minus the injury troubles.

Wouldn’t a team in a build rather get a player they know will be with them for 8 years? Provorov has retention but is quite overpaid so it is not like he is a bargain.
Curious why the OP threw Philly out there? Random team possibly but maybe some inside knowledge?
I do think any team acquiring Lindholm/Hanifin will want to do a long term deal as part of the trade and I think both players are interested in getting that deal done as well

With this team going nowhere and Edmonton being in such a prickly situation, I’d love to make a deal with them for their first rounder. Want Markstrom? Sure! Second rounder please. Want Noah? Sure. Pony up the first. Their back end is atrocious.

That is the price I expect from regular teams. Oilers tax is much much higher.

No thanks to trading any of our players to Edmonton. We’ll have plenty of suitors should we decide to sell. They don’t need to be one of them.

Whoever gives the best return gets the deal, who cares about anything else. The goal is to improve the Flames, if the oilers deal helps that happen, make the deal.

If Edmonton gives the best return, that’s all I care about.
Will our players help Edmonton? Or are we trading them duds?
Because our team has been loaded with duds for years. I’d happily sell them duds for a premium.

Oh who the #### cares.
Like anyone we could possibly trade them would be the difference in them cashing one in.

They can have markstrom for a 2nd round pick for all I care, time to sell on this goalie when his value is high or at least better then last year....hard to make the cap work...we would have to take a contract back, not sure who I would want

Because, as Jeff Marek (of all people) pointed out: what if Conny makes that deal...and the Oil win that thing that they always think they will....then Conny has just enabled them to do that.
No. Thanks. Not. Ever.
Side pieces, sure. Main pieces. Never.
Edmonton is No Good.

Montreal could use a goaltender. I know, Jake Allen ain't bad. But I think they could improve.. maybe even another defenseman

If they add Markstrom that is likely enough to get them into the play-offs, not sure I want a pick in the 20's to help the Oilers get into the play-offs.
Markstrom makes a lot of sense for them but they don't really have anything of value to offer us back in return. We would also have to take a bad deal back to make the salary work and they don't have the extra pieces to add to the deal for us to take on a bad contract like Campbell that they would need us to take.

If the Flames trade their UFA’s I really hope that Conroy is able to convince ownership to load up on picks and rely on our scouts to fill up the pipeline. I have much more faith in the Flames amateur scouting staff if they just have more picks to find players.
In the 2020 draft it appears that they found at least one (Zary) and potentially as high as 4 (Zary, kuznetsov, Poirier, solovyov) players who could play in the NHL out of 8 picks, majority of which were 3rd round or later.
In 2019 it appears they found Pelletier and Wolf (2 out of 5)
2018 it looks like Pospisil will be a player (1 out of 5 with all picks 4th round or later)
2017 looks like 2 out 5 (Valimaki and Ruzicka), all picks except one in 4th round or later
2016 - 3 out 9 (Tkachuk, Dube, Fox)
2015 - 3 out of 5 (Rasmus, Kylington, Mangiapane).
Just rely on the proven track record and let our scouts build this team. If they continue to hit at about a 33% rate and they somehow got 30 picks in the next 3 years that would be another 10 NHL players.

Overall, I definitely trust in the Flames amateur scouting over their pro scouting

Totally understand the fear of making the Oilers better, but Jeff Marek's job is to sensationalize hockey stories, especially in Canadian markets. I'm going to take his opinion that the Oilers are just one piece away from winning it all this season with a gigantic grain of salt. Unless we are giving them Markstrom and 2 defensemen I think we're ok.
I said this in the E=NG thread but I'll put it here as well, IMO whichever team is lucky enough to get their hands on the Oilers 1st round pick this year will be the envy of the league. You just know they're going to make a panic move before too long. Oilers will have to ship off a contract with a 1st to have any hope of adding to their roster, I hope it's the Flames that can make that deal just to get our hands on that top 10 pick, but chances are slim to none that even Holland is that bold/dumb.

I care. I don't want us helping their team. I also don't want to see players I like go to the Oilers.
Lindholm, Hanifin, Zadorov, and Tanev would all make the Oilers a better team. No thank you to trading any of them to Edmonton.
